We had a fairly brief visit to inlaws - just a couple of hours - and adult DCs returned home (and have now left again) which I suppose counts, but this has been the first time in 10 years we haven't had someone extra staying - most of my family are in a different country. And I have to say it's been amazing - the most relaxed Christmas ever.

We did a very very quiet toned down Christmas this year. It was fucking superb. Usually Christmas day is 18+ people, this year no day had more than 4 people and it was soooooooo relaxing.

YANBU you are being sensible!

What am I saying - in fact none of my family lives in the UK. So when they visit, it's a big deal. And much as I love them, them not visiting has been the best present ever :o.
