To not 'do' New Years Eve?

WheresTheCat · 29/12/2011 20:14

Are DH and I the only people in the world who don't 'do' NYE celebrations? I just don't get why it's such a big thing!
Or are we - according to my OAP parents - just extremely boring!!! Xmas Wink

I don't do it either neither do my children.

For me it's just another day.

susiedaisy · 29/12/2011 20:17

I don't do new year, can't see what there is to celebrate that's different from any other day of the yearConfused

Soopermum1 · 29/12/2011 20:19

Haven't done it since 1997, never looked back

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2011 20:19

We are usually in bed by 10pm on NYE. Asleep. Then the bloody fireworks (what are they for) wake us up at 12 Angry

BlissfulMistletoe · 29/12/2011 20:19

I only celebrate if I haven't got work the next day

happydotcom · 29/12/2011 20:19

We're not either!! I'll have my Pjs by 8pm:o

Overated etc etc etc

EauDeLaPoisson · 29/12/2011 20:21

I don't do it either it's just another year of life whizzed by in my view

Figgyrollsintoapudding · 29/12/2011 20:21

I used to love being away (pre-dc) on nye and so the pressure was always off, i get the feeling that everyone thinks we are sad sacks for doing jack shit at ny, would love to do something with mates but everyone is busy and we are obviously on a blacklist Hmm although its sad as we do have a babysitter for the night if we want one

KittyFane · 29/12/2011 20:22

Not done it here since 1995 (!!)
Although forced ourselves to stay up for millennium, just about.

heather1980 · 29/12/2011 20:22

we don't either.
last year was the 1st year in ages we 'did' new year, we went to our best friends house, the couple had a massive row earlier in the day and then ended up breaking up a week later.
so this year dh and i are hibernating!

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2011 20:23

We should all get together and not celebrate. Grin

sonicrainboom · 29/12/2011 20:24

YANBU new years is overrated.
We do the same thing as Sparkling.

maxylou · 29/12/2011 20:24

I loved nye growing up, it was always an excuse for a big family party Grin

Animation · 29/12/2011 20:24

Generally I don't wait up - I go to bed as I'm tired.

Have never thought it was a big deal.

If anything it makes me feel a bit sad. Xmas Sad

KittyFane · 29/12/2011 20:24

I'll be asleep Sparkling! Agree about bloody fireworks!
:o

tringle · 29/12/2011 20:25

I don't do anything for NYE. I could not be less bothered squashing myself into a packed club abc having drink spilt on me, queuing for the loo, a drink, the smoking area. No thanks.

I slept through the millennium. In fairness I was 14 and was working during the day (shocking/child labour etc..) so was just too tired.

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2011 20:26

It makes me feel sad too. Especially when the 12am texts start. Angry

tringle · 29/12/2011 20:26

*and not abc

Stupid iPhone!

squeakytoy · 29/12/2011 20:27

We have only ever gone out once on NYE in 12 years of being together. Neither of us like the fakeness of it all, and prefer to stay in with family, or a couple of friends, and have a chilled but fun night in, rather than get charged to go into our local pub (or anywhere else), queue at the bar, pay overpriced amounts for drink, and be surrounded by pissed idiots who dont know when they have had enough alcohol.

I worked in bars for years and NYE always seems to bring out the worst in a lot of people.. always tears, tantrums and fights.

RainboweBrite · 29/12/2011 20:28

I always stay up and see it in and usually have a couple of glasses of vino, but why people want to go out, spend a fortune, freeze and not manage to get a taxi/ any form of public transport home, is beyond me. SO YANBU. I think a lot more people are prepared to admit it's over-rated now though. I don't think anyone has asked me what I'm doing for NYE this year.

BastedTurkey · 29/12/2011 20:29

I always feel like I might be missing out on something if we don't join our group of friends, and now the DDs are getting older, they want a piece of the action too.

WheresTheCat · 29/12/2011 20:30

We're normally tucked iup in bed at 10pm too Grin No idea why - just don't see the point of it.
It doesn't make me sad or anything - I like the idea of the New Year - we'll get up early as usual and go for a lovely walk to see the 'first birds of 2012' and the 'first seals of 2012' and there won't be anyone else around

OP posts:
Katisha · 29/12/2011 20:30

Everyone thinks everyone else is having a better time than they are on NYE.

We're not doing anything this year. But I feel we "ought" to.

FizzyChristmasFairyDust · 29/12/2011 20:30

We don't do it either.

ISayHolmes · 29/12/2011 20:31

I had the most incredible NYE last year after a lifetime of mediocre ones. I doubt I'll be able to top it so I'm planning on having a good time at home inside. It feels so much better and I'll be relaxed and happy. I don't want to have to fake it and spend the next day counting how much I spent and wondering why I bothered.

The memories I made last year are enough for me.
