I find it amusing how different responses are when very regular posters name change, and it's not noticed by the less prolific posters.

How do you know it's not noticed? Maybe it's just not considered worth commenting on :o

When you change your name (and it becomes username history) does the name become available for others to use?

It's nice to keep anonymity on the internet. Just because people want to be careful not to be recognised in RL doesn't mean there's something to hide.

I name change from time to time as I like to remain anonymous.

I name changed quite recently as I had made myself identifiable and was moaning about RL people like my boss. Also I got a (v mild) ticking off from MNHQ which I was embarassed about!
I'm conflicted TBH. Wish I had kept my old name which I used at meet-ups etc but also it's nice not to gave to check every post for "Do I mind being identified from this".

I have been here since 2008/9 ish, but have had probably around 20 names. Not sure why as noone ever notices me anyway!

I don't have an ongoing vendetta at the moment. I do have an ongoing Vienetta though.

I have been here for 3 years now, and change names about every 6 months to avoid becoming identifiable IRL.

The few "real-life MN friends" that I have receive a PM when I change names.

I think it's good. I belonged to a forum once where you had to ask permission to change names & evidence the need... it didn't really work. People discuss such personal things on here that it's important to give them some power over their anonymity.

I imagine that MN look out for anyone who abuses this opportunity.
