DD1 is out in her new car on her own for the first time since xmas day , and i feel so sick and im dying to text her and ask if she got to where she was going ok , she passed her test in october and hasnt driven since then her dad took her out the other day , Gosh im rambling , somebody slap me and tell me to stop being hysterical !

I didn't drive for 10 years after my test and it all came flooding back after a lesson. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Give her a little while then send her a text to make sure she's all right. Perhaps a congratulatory style text rather than a hysterical mom type text will be more likely to get a response.

Is she generally sensible?

ReindeerBollocks · 28/12/2011 14:00

Ooh how exciting for her, a real taste of independence!

Has she got P plates on the car? Drivers tend to be much more considerate when they can see its a new driver. Has she gone far? I went to the shops which weren't far away - absolutely scared the pants off me. Weeks later I was doing three hour journeys.

She will be fine. Except that she will want to be out in her car a lot now Grin.

Yes she is sensible but quite a nervous person so has syched herself up to go out , no she hasnt gone far just to her friends house , I will text her soon and not be hysterical and ask if shes alive and well Grin thanks for the reasurrance ,

P plates are a great idea until she gets her confidence. Most drivers are just a little bit more considerate and give you a bit more space.

mrsjay · 28/12/2011 14:32

yeah she has her p plates on

IMO your behaviour is completely normal, the feeling does lessen over time

hellhasnofury · 28/12/2011 14:54

It does lessen over time, mine are both driving and have been for a few years now but I still worry about them when they are out late at night. YANBU.

HIya i gave her enough time to get to where she was going and she had her phone off , she would never text and drive , Well she was fine and even had us out in the car yesterday to go to town ,
