...and be considering going to bed at 11pm? Grin

I can't stand the enforced jollity so never go out, but actually feel like I don't want anything to do with celebrating the passing of this year. I'm looking forward to Xmas being over and getting back to normal and would rather just get on with things rather than looking back. It's been quite a shitty year.

AIBU? Will you be whooping it up come midnight on NYE? Smile

I enjoyed Hogmanay/NY as a student, but I can't really be bothered with it now.

It was great fun walking the streets in the small hours, first footing, but anything we do now cannot eclipse these memories.

Maybe when we are free of children, we will get a hotel room in central London and make a really day of it.

SantieMaggie · 28/12/2011 14:12

we never do anything either apart from get drunk and have take away - any ideas how we can make it more exciting this year after a crap 2011?

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 28/12/2011 14:16

Hate it, always have. Find it very depressing. I consider it a successful NYE if I'm asleep before the fecking bells start chiming. :o

amerryscot · 28/12/2011 14:16

Before we had children, we went into London or downtown to whereever we were living at the time.

OrmIrian · 28/12/2011 14:17

Oh I don't hate him per se. He seems to be a very talented and agreable man. I just hate chat shows/variety/music shows. And Hootenanny (or whatever it's called) just seems to be one of those writ large and it goes on for hours and hours and hours. Well, it seems to. Would rather watch a film or read a book. But I am very very dull......

JosieRosie · 28/12/2011 14:22

Fair enough OrmIrian, he does have some duff guests on sometimes too Smile

I like spending NYE with friends, having a nice meal together.

I've never liked celebrating it among people I don't know, in a club or similar.

This year I'd like to spend it watching The Killing with dh.

Mrsrobertduvall · 28/12/2011 14:56

Another NyE hater here.
When I was a teenager, my mum slapped my face because I wouldn't wish her Happy New Year.

I shall be on my own, with dd. Who will be on FB. I shall probably be in bed by 10 as usual.

JosieRosie · 28/12/2011 15:03

Mrsrobertduvall, that's horrible Sad Enjoy the freedom to celebrate NY as you wish. Then get on with life as normal the next day Smile

I feel like that about Christmas, a day of conspicuous consumption, that generally makes me sick, I go through the motions, I love Hogmanay, a time to celebrate - my joy is completely natural, it is the best party of the year for me.

Yes I am Scottish.

purpleknittingmum · 28/12/2011 15:20

Never bothered with New Year, not one for going out anyway and certainly wouldn't want to go to a NYE party!

Sometimes I have gone to bed before midnight or just after. It is our daughter's birthday on 1 Jan, and last year was the first time we let her stay up till midnight...she loved it! We warned her it isn't very exciting but she was happy to be up!
