Bought iron last year (snazzy steam generated one)
It came with a 2 year warranty that you had to register.
We registered it and filed away paperwork etc...

Iron broke within warranty period.
Emailed and called them. Have all the warranty paperwork and it is registered but they have also demanded a photocopy of original receipt which we do not have.

So they have said sorry tough shit, despite us registering the warranty when we bought it.

Can they do that? I thought if you registered a 2 year warranty it was covered for 2 years.

I'm so confused and pissed off. Help please!

If you google 'proof of purchase registered warranty', just about every one that comes up says it will need proof of purchase when claiming on the warranty.

They may accept a different proof though - if you bought it on a credit card and still have the statement, a copy of that might be acceptable.

Take it back to the shop you bought it from - your contract is with them as you bought it from them. Items need to last a reasonable length of time and as it is a steam generated one I doubt it was cheap.

Under EU legislation - you will have to google for it - white goods are actually under warranty for 6 years. So all those extended warrantys you buy are a complete waste of money.

Trading Standards is your best bet.

Article 5 of the EU Product Warranty Directive (1999) is the quote you need.

Back to the shop and quote the sales of goods act (google it and memorise it) - that's all you have to do apart from being very firm and speaking to a manager.

But I can't prove I bought it from there at the minute as no bank statements or receipt digs

I'm so annoyed at myself at the situation because I am generally very good with reciepts and paperwork Sad

Grrrrr.
Thank you all I am composing an email for as soon as I get my proof sorted x
