To be really peeved with Ofsted?!

I have been in the process of signing up for the voluntary register. A week or two before Christmas I had to resend my documents as my driving license couldn't be used without an extra form of ID (my old address, hasn't been changed yet). So I sent off my license, passport and birth cert on the understanding that, after speaking to two different people in ofsted who reassured me, my documents would be sent back to me via Special Delivery on the same day that they receive it, as they didn't keep documents overnight.

They received them on Friday the 16th. I called on the 22nd to find out where they were and was told it's okay, they're on the way back to me via first class and because it's Christmas it'll take longer to get here, I asked about Special Delivery and she said she didn't know why I was told that.

IABU to be annoyed that I had to go home, three hours away from the address that they sent them to, for Christmas and now I cannot go out for a drink at the only time of the year I actually go for a drink because I have no flipping ID because Ofsted actually don't send back documents SDelivery as they promised me! I wouldn't have bothered sending my docs off if they told me it was sent via first class and would have waited till I got home to get someone to check my docs for me! Bloody Ofsted. Supposed to be going to the pub tonight for a birthday celebration but they won't even let me in without ID :(

Tbh i am suprised that they still counted your driving licence with an extra form of ID, as you are supposed to change your adress within a reasonable length of time.

It is annoying when you are given incorrect information. Normally ID is sent back special delivery, i don't know what the voluntary register is, though.

YANBU

Are you married? If so your marriage certificate will count as ID I think as it has your date of marriage and how old you were at the time. I thought there wasn't an age limit for pubs anymore. I take my 3 dc in all the time although maybe it's different in the evening.

confusedpixie · 28/12/2011 11:28

Rudolf: That's why they didn't count it originally, but they said to send it anyway in case one of my other docs failed (I sent about six or seven things off to them in the end, to cover all bases!) I am waiting until I have a permanent address to change my license which is still based at my parents, apparently that's okay as long as it does change as soon as there is a permanent address.

Voluntary reg is for nannies.

ellie: Not married :( This pub ups security around the time of Christmas and New Year as the local kids can't go to the nearest big town to drink so they try their luck in the local pubs. I could possibly get in due to an old school mate working there who can vouch for me, but I wouldn't be able to drink which is a pain :(

A child going to a pub with a parent is different to someone claiming to be an adult and wanting alcohol.

Anyway, many pubs don't allow children after a certain time.

OP, do you have any other photo id that can be backed up with a paid bill or a medical card or something?

Rudolfsgottarednose · 28/12/2011 11:36

Are you no where near an office that can re-issue a BC, they do it on the same day?

I take it that all of your car insurance etc is still in your parents?

Lets just hope that you get work through all of this and never trust the word of someone the end of a phone again.

confusedpixie · 28/12/2011 11:40

Worra: Nothing. I'm going to head to my parents house soon and rummage through my things to see if there is something there, but I have no other form of ID, my medical card was one of the things I sent to Ofsted.

It's quite annoying as I'm 22, yet always get IDed, the friend I'm going out with hasn't been IDed since she was 15 Shock

For those of you suggesting marriage or birth certificates, lots of pubs/clubs won't accept birth or marriage certificates as ID as they don't have a photo on them.

Some places are even turning away the Government's CitizenCard passes (which carry a photograph) so I don't fancy the OP's chances with something that's not got her picture on it.

confusedpixie · 28/12/2011 11:58

Rudolf: Don't know about the PO actually and didn't know that they could do that, possibly not where I am but I know a post master who may be able to help me a half hour or so away.

Car insurance has just been renewed to my new address the past couple of days so all documents have just been sent to there. It's really just a case of bad timing! My documents are probably at my current address now, but I can't exactly pop home to get them! And the documents I may have had at my parents address aren't there as they also got sent to Ofsted! Sods law I think. I know there isn't much I can do, I just wanted a rant.

I normally wouldn't give a toss about drinking, honestly wouldn't, but I wanted to buy friend a bottle of something nice and bubbly to share with friends as she's not having the best time at the moment (her Mum passed just before Christmas) and I wanted her to have something special and slightly indulgent on her birthday. I may get my DP to buy something and just take it to the pub, I'm sure that if the old school friend can get me in he'll be able to wrangle a couple of glasses from somewhere!
