To hate Tommee Tippee beakers?

The free flow sort with the spout that folds down.

I can't put the lid on without squirting myself in the face with the contents.

I can't take the lid back off without a huge amount of effort.

They are not non drip so DD takes great delight in watering the sofa/floor/cat.

They only come in 3 different colours so every child has the same beaker as your own.

Can someone tell me it's a myth about the ones that are not free flow being bad for their teeth development (or something like that)?

Oh yes I have two (green and blue) ds throws it on the floor then while I make sure lid is on I usually squirt myself in the face. Grrrr Xmas Angry

ObviouslyLovesTinsel · 27/12/2011 20:04

They're a real bitch to get the bloody lids off aren't they!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 27/12/2011 20:14

I got those. My children couldn't get any fluid out of the "non-spill" sort. Neither could I, when I tried. We obviously don't have a very powerful suck in our family.

Tried a Doidy cup at one stage. That was alright, as long as we were in the garden and child was naked at the time.

gallicgreetings · 27/12/2011 20:40

The lid thing is strange as I have a couple of tommee tippee bottles and can't get the feckin' lids to stay on so when I shake the formula up, I invariably get a load over my hand.

Also the numbers came off. I had a moan at TT and was told to send them back saying when I bought them and where from. Shock It was MONTHS ago!

4madboys · 27/12/2011 20:45

we have used them for all 5 of our children, they are cheap, easy to drink from and if you dont fill it really full it doesnt spray you when you put the lid on! there is a knack to getting the lids off easily, after 12yrs i dont find them a problem! Grin

saladsandwich · 27/12/2011 20:48

i aim the spout in the sink and take the lid off over the sink... also ds found if thrown hard enough onto hard floors the lids pop open quite easily

Methe · 27/12/2011 20:49

We have every colour. I think they are great!

BornToFolk · 27/12/2011 20:50

YABU, I loved them. DS also could never get anything out of the non-spill sort. He's 4 now and still takes one to bed so he can have a drink of water in the night without tipping it everywhere.
We've got at least 3 different colours but you always swap the lids around (e.g orange lid on a blue cup) to make them look a bit more different for taking to playgroup etc.

Cankulzof · 27/12/2011 20:50

Have you ever tried removing the spout to clean it? I did once (with a pair of pliers) after using it for yonks and it was full of black gunge

gallifrey · 27/12/2011 20:56

LOL so pleased I'm not the only one!

NewBikeForChristmas · 27/12/2011 21:00

I love them, have them in at least 4 colours. HV warned me against non spill cups so have never used one.

maydaychild · 27/12/2011 21:02

YABU they are simply the best. Last forever. Never leak. Mine used them alone by 12m. Mine don't throw their drinks around either.
Don't fill so high
Don't fill with juice (black gunk??)
Put in dishwasher
Stick name label on

I have two types though, prefer modern one with 3 holes.

sprinkles77 · 27/12/2011 21:20

they are OK but DS likes to sprinkle the contents about. Prefer the non-spill ones.

blackeyedsanta · 27/12/2011 21:23

they changed the colours a year or so back. there used to be a lot more variety.

filling them right to the top then putting the lid on and seeing how high the water sqirts is the one pleasure of bedtime. not so good if one gets an eye full though.

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2011 21:24

if you get squirted they are too full. Agree they can be a pain to get off though

HorribleDay · 27/12/2011 21:37

What's the problem with the non spill ones (provided DC's can drink from them)??

skybluepearl · 27/12/2011 21:39

I love em!

breatheslowly · 27/12/2011 21:42

As you put the lid on tip the cup so that the spout is by the air gap and it won't squirt you. DD loves to watch milk dripping out of hers onto the carpet Angry.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 27/12/2011 21:45

I cannot get the lid off...after hundreds and hundreds of lid removals, I STILL can't do it without spilling it everywhere or pulling my nail off

2yo charge on the other hand can do it in one very quick and very swift movement Hmm

4madboys · 27/12/2011 21:51

re the lids and cleaning the spout, hot soapy water, but the lids can go in a steam steriliser as well, but i only ever put water in them anyway. and yes when flung at speed from a highchair so they hit a hard floor at velocity the lid can pop off, dd is good at this! i mix and match the lids around, we currenlty have a dark blue one that came with a green lid (old one of the boys ones) and a pinky/red one and also a green one and a lighter blue one, they rarely have the right lid on tho! and yes the new ones have more holes in the spout, i think they are great from 6mths or earlier, very easy for little ones to pick up and drink from. mine have never been able to drink from the non-spill ones and those with the little valve that doesnt come out (int he spout like the cow? cup) get really gross.

AKMD · 27/12/2011 21:54

YANBU but I can't find anything better so they're here to stay.

Things wrong with them:

  • The lids must be removed over a sink, using the edge of the sink to pry them off.
  • Even with the spout down, they drip, leak and mess up my handbag.
  • DS enjoys tipping them upside down and watching the water come out. Usually onto himself in his car seat Angry Admittedly, this is DS rather than the cup, but still Angry
AKMD · 27/12/2011 21:55

I also mix and match the lids, which worked a treat until everyone else cottoned on Hmm

CuppaTeaJanice · 27/12/2011 22:00

Does anyone else find they explode if you leave them in your bag overnight? Especially in the summer. Many times I have opened the bag in the morning to find a soggy orangey mess all over the nappies, spare clothes, keys, purse etc.

I now use beakers with a similar type of spout, but a screw top lid.

Moominsarescary · 27/12/2011 22:09

I have a green one for ds3 9 months and he happily popes it on the floor, don't know if the others are bad for teeth but ds1 and 2 had none drip ones and have lovely teeth they are 17 and 9 ( yes I know, doesn't mean plenty of other children's teeth are bad because of them) I just haven't been arsed to go out and get a non drip one yet

sheepgomeep · 27/12/2011 22:33

Ha Ha yes I share your pain about the lid squirting you in the face. i did this with dd.s beaker and it was warm milk. Proper fountain straight up my nose and up my face. Bleurrghhh
