To wash cat bowl every day ?

I wash the cat bowl every day because I have memories of maggots appearing when was child. The cat won't eat out of a dirty bowl anyway.

DH says I am spoiling the cat and twice a year when he feeds her he won't clean the bowl. Unsurprisingly the cat won't eat what he leaves for her and it has to be thrown away. He says this is is wasteful and indulgent.

I think cat bowls need to be cleaned everyday. AIBU ?

We all hate washing up cat bowls so use paper plates which can be chucked away. This also makes it easier for neighbours who occasionally feed him.

previously I have been thinking of you. I hope you are OK and not on your own tonight.

With love and prayers Thanks

Yuck I don't have a dishwasher but would not put cats bowl in would not like the thought of it !
It is not a nice job washing pet bowls I like to bleach my cats at least once a week. Have been known to use disposable plates when we have some left over. Have always thought there would be a good market for a disposable tray of cat food which acts as a plate too. The trays you can buy are no good as my cat can't get food out herself.

marriedandwreathedinholly Old gorgeous cat dropped like a stone the minute the injection went in, it was definitey the right time, his heart kept beating for a while though. DH got home in time to look after the DCs as planned. Vet was lovely.

Full of his favourite food and in front of a roaring fire, not a bad way to go by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, he was a spectacular cat and will be missed very much. xXx.

Cats are very clean and can get sick very easly they dont like pooing in dirty litter they will piss on the floor if cat litters not clean

You will find after a while cats will stop eating or get very sick

Driftwood999 · 28/12/2011 21:09

yanbu - cats generally do not like rotten meat/carrion, it's fresh kill or nothing! Besides that, it's can get a bit whiffy for the humans.

Spero · 28/12/2011 22:04

Maypole really? I have had seven cats in the last 15 years and none have ever got 'really sick' or stopped eating (I wish) due to my slatternly habits. They have coped admirably well with bowls being washed - gasp - every 3 days or so (if they are lucky).

And disposable cat dishes! I hope you mean ones that will compost.

I read that kerstina likes to bleach her cats at least once a week. Xmas Grin Even if she means their bowls, I wouldn't do that as I don't think my cat would like the smell. My cat has 5 bowls. Large stainless for water, small for dry food and three plastic for wet food which get rinsed and put in the dishwasher so usually a new one every day. I don't think my cat is that fussed tbh but if he has left food I throw it and use a clean bowl.
