To feel so guilty? Found out I am pregnant this morning...

Er, name change. I am actually quite embarrassed. I found out I am pregnant this morning (couple of days before period due, so 3-4 weeks). We are thrilled.
BUT yesterday I had about 3 or 4 glasses of wine across the course of the day - with mountains for food - and - eek - a cigarette. I don't usually smoke. It took ages to concieve DS and this was our first month trying, rubbish timing, no symptoms etc. I really didn't think I was preg.
I feel SO guilty! Like a terrible mother. Did anyone else do this before finding out they were preg? I feel foolish - I didn't drink at ALL when trying for or pregnant with DS.

I was out drinking for DH's birthday a few years ago. I had a feeling I was pregnant, but was too early to test so had a few anyway (bottles of vodka based drinks were on offer so that was my tipple), didnt get too drunk though.

I was PG and now have a lovely 4YO DD who has had no problems.

Again with DD2 my period was late (though I did get negative tests at first) so had a few beers in the early stages. She is fine too.

Think about it this way, if you hadnt been TTCing and didnt test until way after your period was due, as is what happens to many many people what then? Lots and lots of people drink and smoke in the first couple of weeks of pregnancy as they dont realise they are pregnant for what could be weeks. Lots of those dont have any problems at all. So now you do know you can be aware from now one.

Also a good time of year to find out you're pregnant as there is lots of baby sales in August/September most probably due to many people getting pregnant this time of the year.

A whole bottle of Bailey's with OH the night before I found out I was pg. TBH I'd not been off depo long, we weren't exactly 'at it like rabbits' and didn't in a million years think I was!

If it is a couple of days before your period is due then implantation has probably not yet occurred (this happens around 14 days after fertilisation)

Therefore the embryo/foetus is not yet connected to your blood supply, so any alcohol or cigaratte-related toxins that get into your bloodstream cannot yet interact with it at all.

I accidentally had a huge mojito when upduffed. DD was 9'6"lb and is not an alcoholic

Also my cousin didn't give up smoking til 5 weeks pg & her DD was also huge, healthy & gorgeous. Congrats!
