Love the alternative lyrics so true...... as any military wife will know!
Great too that the Services' charities will benefit too from the success of the single.

namechangerbat quite......

Happy Boxing Day everyone!

moonferret · 26/12/2011 07:49

Bossybritches22 OK, we'll call it a geographical thing (or another creeping Americanism) if you've heard it in your area! :)

LtXmasEve · 26/12/2011 07:50

But you are not correct Moonferret - you are just giving your opinion. Your opinion is not necessarily correct. You may not understand that the word is interchangeable, but plenty of others do, you cannot accept that you may be wrong.

I would suggest that the word Military is 'softer' than the word Forces; has better connotations, so the General Public may feel more comfortable with it's use. However that is only MY opinion, Gareth Malone may have had other reasons to call the choir Military Wives (and as he is a member of the Public he obviously understood the interchangability of the word...)

No aggro from me dear sir, we HAD agreed to disagree but you cannot resist having another pop at other posters.

I'm going back to Real Life now & suggest you do the same, this thread has been hijacked enough.

OP ....YANBU! Xmas Grin

seeker · 26/12/2011 08:13

It's nice that Christmas number 1 is a special song rather than xfactor junk. Military is quite a commonly used word, especially on the news. Heard more often than forces, I think.

redlac · 26/12/2011 08:17

I'm sure the Tattoo in Edinburgh is the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is it not? I wouldn't say it was an Americanism.

Well done to the Choir for keeping the X Factor dirge off the number 1 spot

LtXmasEve · 26/12/2011 08:17

That's a very good point Seeker, neither of those would sound right prefixed with Forces would they?

LottieJenkins · 26/12/2011 08:24

I am very pleased that they are No 1!!!!!!!!!!!!Xmas SmileXmas Grin

TroublesomeEx · 26/12/2011 08:26

The Military Wives

has a better rhythm than

The Forces Wives

which is why I would have chosen military over forces had I been in GM's shoes.

I doubt it had anything to do with the interchangability or accuracy of the word 'military' over 'forces' and was more to do with the musicality of it.

With him being a musician and all!!

I only heard/saw it for the first time yesterday and I can't say I was a fan. I really wanted nirvana to get it but at least it wasn't x-factor.
