I know it's Christmas, but all the other threads are about stockings and presents and MILs, so thought's I'd interject with a non-festive thread Xmas Wink

Rightho...

DS was a preschool on Friday. When I picked him up his key worker told me they'd been watching films all day. They watched at least 3 films (I think it was 4 but unsure. Definitely 3+) and some peppa pig. Apparently they didn't do anything else all day.

When I queried this, she said 'Oh, they were all chilled, it's a treat... last day before Christmas and everything'.

Xmas Hmm

Now. I am NOT averse to TV at preschool. They watch TV for 20 mins or so after lunch and dinner, and that's fine as far as I'm concerned.

6 hours of TV in one day though? Was v perplexed about it tbh. She kept insisting that they kids didn't want to do anything else? Um...well 4yo DS would watch CBeebies all bloody day if I let him, but I don't.

So..1 or 2 films on last day of term would have been fine with me. 4 equalling entire day is not. Do I complain or not?

But surely some of the children became restless?

I wouldn't be happy. I wouldn't make a formal complaint, but I would mention to the manager that I wasn't thrilled.
You are paying for your child to be cared for and educated by professionals, not parked like a car.

How the hell did they keep a group of 4 yr olds sat watching films for the day? Did they sedate them with Medised?

I am sure most of the kids wandered off after 30 mins. I cannot believe the kids sat there nicely film after film. My kids are not hell raisers but they'd not be capable of doing that.

YaNNNNNbu.

I would be surprised and not a little irritated to find my DC watching TV in nursery AT ALL, much less a whole film, and 3 in one day?!! That is ridiculous.

The staff is there to play with/take care of/educate the children, not turn on the TV so they can do something else. If the nursery needs to be cleaned that happens when the kids aren't there. If the staff want to have an easy day, that's what holidays are for!

Kids can (and will, and perhaps even should) have time to watch TV and relax at home. But not at nursery. If you're paying for someone to mind your child, that's what they should be doing.

I would definitely write a letter of complaint. And I might mention it to the other parents and see if they will, too.

I think 3 films is an awful lot in one day. I would be very cross if my daughter were ever allowed to watch that much telly at nursery, even as a treat. Especially as nurseries are so expensive. But if you are normally very happy with nursery, keep quiet.

I don't think YABU. I would be fuming to discover my nursery doing rid when I am paying a substantial fee for them to look after my child, interact with then, supervise playtime, educate them.

But it's been and done now so perhaps not mention it this time but keep an eye on things. Sounds like a one off, but I would be equally pissed off.

As for whoever said that the staff may have needed the time to do last minute shopping - WTF? you cannot be serious, surely?!?! Confused

Rid = this. Bloody iPhone...
