to be panicking about my toe

I have an ingrown toenail, I tried to remedy it myself...made it worse. It is is Christmas bloody evening and I am hobbling about, my toe is throbbing, the slightest touch makes me yelp, it is swollen and red and hot and tingly and I cant do anything about it. Googling it helped matters by informing me that left untreated I could indeed get gangrene and need to have toe surgery/toe removed/leg amputated or die. Want to cry.

Call the out of ours GP. You can get the number by phoning your normal GP - the number will be on their answering machine. You'll speakto a call handler, and the GP will give you a ring back. They'll be able to assess the situation, and may see you tonight. Better than a trip to A&E.

You have my sympathy...I had one a few weeks ago, agony, I hopped to the sink each morning to put my foot in hot water and then when it was warmed up eased the skin away from the nail with a bit of olive oil. It kept me going for a few days until I was able to get to a podiatrist. If you have some Tea tree oil might help for the few days everything is closed....down the sore side and then smother the nail top and underneath. Hope this helps....

thank you thank you thank you all of you, you have literally calmed me the fuck down. dont know what dragon butter is...refuse to google it for fear of never getting to bed. you wouldnt believe how much i have held people at arms length today. my little boy knocked my toe last night and was v bemused by my drop to the floor rolling round like id been shot reaction. he then decided he wanted to take a photo of my toe...and promptly hit it with the camera - cue more rolling around. my family keep nudging it, but the touch is so light that they wouldnt think it would do anything but i am screaming and they dont understand what they did wrong!
Happy Christmas all, thank you again!

It is a godawful pain. Strong painkillers & salt water soaking. I kicked a nurse who was sorting mine out. Xmas Blush
