I've seen it LOADS today.

Is it a typo? Or is it an actual new word?

Please tell me!

IIRC it originates from Jilly Cooper novels where someone is trying to sound posher than they are, they have elocution lessons but get it slightly wrong. Therefore they wouldn't just buy ham, they would buy nice ham.

PattySimcox · 24/12/2011 00:12

Oh and because it is xmas one buys "naicer" things than usual

mominamillion · 24/12/2011 00:14

Wasn't 'nice ham' on a shopping list that someone found?

staylucky · 24/12/2011 00:17

Cause it's hilarious.

RhondaGotStuckInTheChimneyRoo · 24/12/2011 00:19

In Tesco yesterday, my list consisted of:

Champagne
Frozen raspberries
Birthday card
Cake ingredients
Crusty bread
Nice ham.

I had actually written 'Nice' ham and didn't notice until in the 'ham' aisle I looked at list, looked at 'Naice' ham and let out an almost-giggle (got a few strange looks)

I did consider leaving said list in trolley in the hope an unsuspecting Mumsnetter would find it and smile Xmas Grin

'vair' is another one!

RhondaGotStuckInTheChimneyRoo · 24/12/2011 00:20

vair naice ham?

RhondaGotStuckInTheChimneyRoo · 24/12/2011 00:22

btw - having Champagne on my list may seem a tad pretentious, however to even things out I had just done my main shop in Aldi.

(I is common as muck and vair proud of it Grin)

humblehippo · 24/12/2011 00:27

I hate "naice" and "vair", especially when italicised

LiliPinkiePie · 24/12/2011 00:28

While doing the Christmas food shop at sainsburys I asked DH "shall we get some naice ham?"
Then snorted and giggled a bit.
He didn't get it, and disappointingly, no-one in the queue for the deli laughed either. I guess you were all at waitrose.

BertieBotts · 24/12/2011 00:30

I love naice and vair. They make me laff.

RhondaGotStuckInTheChimneyRoo · 24/12/2011 00:33

I love how it sounds in my head - that's enough to make me giggle doesn't take much

Fo0ffysFestiveShmooffery · 24/12/2011 00:35
