To think if you you invite friends round for Xmas drinks you should give them nibbles or a mince pie?!

Just wondering about this, our friend invited us round for Christmas drinks last night. We took a bottle of champagne which they opened and we all drank (including 2 other guests) but we weren't given any nibbles, not even a mince pie. If it was me I would have provided something as it was 6 0-clock and we were starving! Aibu?

YANBU! I'd have nipped to the loo and raided the fridge on the way back.

DoMeDon · 23/12/2011 21:08

YANBU - Christmas is all about food! Tight wads? Socially inept? Odd for sure.

You have to have nibbles. It's the rules.

RainbowSheep · 23/12/2011 21:11

We went home after an hour as were so hungry!

I think if we'd been in your position and noticed there wasn't any food or nibbly things out, or being prepared, we'd have stayed for a 'polite' hour and then taken our leave.

YANBU - it does seem rather odd Xmas Confused

TheSydenhamSet · 23/12/2011 21:14

That's bizarre!

Sariska · 23/12/2011 21:14

YANBU. I had Christmas drinks last night and spent longer over the food than I did on my M&S Prosecco and wine run. Everything got eaten apart from the gingerbread house, which my DC were mightily relieved about this morning Xmas Grin.

Perhaps no food is a host's way of ensuring no-one stays too long. (Either that or they actually want someone to be sick in the roses on the way out.....)

PattySimcox · 23/12/2011 21:16

YAB a bit U -it shouldn't be nibbles or mince pies, it should be both.

DuchessofCambridge · 23/12/2011 21:21

absolutely definitely totally and utterly YANBU. Miserable feckers. Sever all ties at once.

pigletmania · 23/12/2011 21:49

YANBU strange and a bit tight tbh

aldiwhore · 23/12/2011 21:49

YANBU.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/12/2011 21:51

YANBU

I'm guessing they didn't want their guests to linger

aldiwhore · 23/12/2011 21:51

Agreed with PattySimcox and add and more... [nods]

KeepInMindItsAlmostChristmas · 23/12/2011 21:54

what not ever a pom bear????

MatLeaveForever · 23/12/2011 22:02

Maybe they brought out a huge buffet after you left at 7pm?! Xmas Grin

RaPaPaPumPumBootyMum · 23/12/2011 22:06

YANBU!

i would have been starving and then needed a McD's drive thru on the way home - then I really would have been p'd off!

susiedaisy · 23/12/2011 22:10

YANBU tight sods!

Xmasbaby11 · 23/12/2011 22:11

That's weird! I always have food to offer with a drink, whatever the time of day! Maybe they are not big eaters? While I've been hungry and teetotal (ie pregnant) I've noticed that hosts can be spectacularly bad at providing soft drinks and nibbles. I guess I was expecting them to be mind readers so they should know I can't survive til dinner at 8 on one glass of elderflower cordial!

Goolash · 23/12/2011 22:15

yanbu I'd always serve some kind of nibbles, crisps and dips at the very least, this is the norm amongst people we know. For Christmas drinks at 6 you'd expect mince pies!

We have been invited around to someone's house a few times, always at food time, then there's nothing Xmas Confused. These gatherings then go on for hours, and it's clear that they're expecting us to stay. We all have kids!! One time they did order in pizza, enough for one slice each, there was a couple of slices left and you could see the glances amongst the other adults Xmas Grin. Every time I ask if we can bring something, they say don't worry, I buy crisps. I've leant now and we eat at 4.30, stay for hours, drink, eat crisps, then buy fast food on the way home.

nearlytoolate · 23/12/2011 22:20

If you do 'Christmas drinks' , what time of day is that and how long does it usually go on for? Do your dc go too? (curious emoticon)
