To visit hit and run child's family to see if he's ok

I witnessed a hit and run today. I spent some time with the young boy on the road and know where he lives. I really want to make sure he's ok but don't know if it's the right thing to do. What do you think?

Gosh, I feel shocked just imagining this situation. Well done op, it must have been very distressing and no wonder it's playing on your mind. I would also go with a card through the door.

I hope you have someone to look after you. Wherever this little boy is, he'll be well cared for but you have also witnessed and been part of a really traumatic incident so please please be good to yourself.

It's a great idea to pop around with a card; I agree with the poster who said to put your details in. You are in delicate condition yourself and people can react unpredictably in these distressing situations. With a card you can let them know you care and want to help in the future but can retain some distance.

You did a brave thing. Hats off to you.

Yes, well done OP, if I was his mother, poor woman, I'd be very glad you were there to offer him some comfort and reassurance.

I definitely think you should make contact, they will be so grateful
You were there to help and comfort their little boy. The boy might want to see you as you were there and it would be nice for him too. Please don't forget to update us on how he is too - poor little mite.

I would pop the card through the door tomorrow asking after him and leaving your details then I'd knock the door in a few days time.

Do contact the police - you never know what you may be able to help with. Also, I would echo what others have said here about popping a card through the door - I am sure it would be greatly appreciated. About 12 years I helped a little boy who had fallen off the back of one of the old route masters and was quite badly injured. I managed to get him to the nearest house which turned out to be a day nursery full of first aiders and people trained to look after children - some one was looking after me that day!! I often wonder how he is now. I left after the ambulance and some of his family turned up as I felt I was intruding.

I popped a card through the door and put my number in the card. I hope he's ok. If I hear anything I ll let you know. Merry Xmas everyone.

You should call the police, you were a witness of the aftermath.
