Dd (7) asked for some clothes for her build a bear teddies for Xmas. I've never bought the bears one of her nans has purchased them as gifts for her previously.

I'm in town now and saw the shop so thought Id nip
in a buy her a few outfits. Oh my goodness, seriously!!How much?!? I refuse to spend £20 on a Teddy bear's outfit unless I can jolly well wear it too! :)

AIBU to think this is stupidly expensive?

Also, Ive noticed Argos do "designabear" outfits, does anyone know if they fit build a bears as they're about a third of the price!

Sorry for a dull aibu, but I feel quite guilty her nan must have spent a small fortune on whatshername has bought her in the past and I never realised.

south345 · 23/12/2011 14:42

Get them off eBay they still fit I paid £4.99 for some dungarees.

MyRealName · 23/12/2011 14:43

£20!? Blimey. I like the baby clothes idea, not a clue if they would fit though.

BertieBotts · 23/12/2011 14:43

That is ridiculous. Bably clothes for actual humans don't cost that much. Vile shop!

CheerMum · 23/12/2011 14:46

StarbuckIzzy · 23/12/2011 14:51

We love build a bear!!!
Argos clothes fit fine though.
Our children have a mix of build a bear, Argos and baby clothes. Oh and Baby Annabel clothes fit too.

olgaga · 24/12/2011 00:38

Haven't you heard about ebay? I got a pair of PJ's, slippers and a England football top and shorts for about £18. All new!

startail · 24/12/2011 01:03

Yes they are as much as real baby clothes, but teddy bears don't grow out of them.
My DDs have piles of BB stuff and it's been played with for years and years.
The only problem is DD2s rabbit (who must have been made by the trainee), I've lost track of how many times I've stitched her feet. She's very good and keeps very still.

JollyJinglyJoo · 24/12/2011 01:06

Don't know about build-a-bears, but (cheapskate that I am!) I went into asda and bought lots of their "tiny baby" clothes for the dd's dolls- far cheaper! Would they fit bears? They fit baby Annabelle and her ilk

Everytime I am forced too spend time in buildabear, I begin to think the taleban might have a point about western decadence.

ubercat · 26/12/2011 11:51

Buildabear workshop is a poster child for why capitalism isn't a good thing. (And have you ever been in one when there's a party going on? A special little circle of hell unto itself, that is. Xmas Angry )

Mine used to buy their own outfits with their own birthday money.
As soon as the eldest realised how much further her birthday money went in pretty much any other shop, none of them ever bothered with stupid overpriced teddy clothes any more.

I call that a good life lesson. Xmas Grin

Dreadful place, rude staff. We were in the new one at Westfield, a six month old baby was having a personal session but obv not interacting. DS went over to help press buttons etc and the baby's parents were happy enough to get things moving along. Rude member of staff said: "can you move him please. They have PAID for this you know. If he wants to press it (the button for stuffing needs a good five minutes of continuous pressing) then you have to pay first". Oh, yeah, it is OK for her to sit on her backside bum-faced doing it all but not so if another child comes along and joins in; even though the parents are cool with it

My girls LOVE build a bear, but it is a very rare treat for them. Each bear has 1 outfit - they swap them around their other bears but don't buy any more.

At least the bear isn't going to outgrow the outfit, unlike babies, or cover it in an exploding nappy and tomato pasta, unlike babies...
