I just got an email. Yet when I was booking my Christmas delivery weeeeeeeeks ago, Wednesday was the closest I could get. Bastards.

No celery with this morning's delivery, but otherwise everything was there. It was much better than having to face a supermarket this morning.

puzzlesum · 23/12/2011 18:33

I got the emails about available slots, but couldn't book one because I already have one booked for tomorrow (fair enough you can only book one 'free' on in Xmas week, but I couldn't book and pay for another even if I wanted to .. )

I'm dumping Ocado after this order I think - they have been late frequently (and as a delivery pass customer, no delivery charge to refund .. coincidence?), run out of stock despite ordering the day before (with the slot already booked so stock should have been accurate) and no apology. When I last complained about it by email the response was "well you can always cancel the order when you [eventually] find out it's going to be late" (NB you can find this out by looking online, no-one phones to tell you until the driver is c. 15 mins away). When I last complained about it on Twitter I got no reply.

I like the Ocado app, but with a new Waitrose store nearby and now having a car, I would rather try the pick up in store option and see how that goes. I'm very disappointed as I was a huge fan of Ocado.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 23/12/2011 18:33

I got my Waitrose delivery yesterday- no potatoes, broccoli or parnsips. Serously. Thank God it wasnt Christmas Eve

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 23/12/2011 18:34

Ocado haven't just decided to release slots to piss people off, they're ones cancelled by customers. My Waitrose came on time with one item out of stock this morning, beats going to the store!

puzzlesum · 23/12/2011 18:36

Given how late I expect them to be running tomorrow, they would be better off using the slots to catch up! (But of course that wouldn't make them any dosh).

EtInTerraPax · 23/12/2011 19:02

flossie I have frozen the lamb, just a bit jam-packed in my freezer, and it takes up lots of space!

peaceofcake had you a turkey on your order already? I was wondering if it was because we hadn't... good offer really- turkey crown, organic free range bronze, feeds 5-7 worked out at 20.50- I wasn't going to bother with turkey, but price seemd v reasonable.

PeaceofCakeAndGoodWineToAllMN · 23/12/2011 19:05

Yup, a goose though.

Hulababy · 23/12/2011 21:36

They weren't running late at all today. Mine even came early :)
But the driver did say that their computer system was playing up making it harder for them,

the reason they have to wait to a couple of days b4 christmas to release more slots is because they have try and get more drivers to cover the shifts and they have to get more vans into each depot, which is no easy feat.if they get extra drivers/vehicle to early then their could be a lot of guys sitting around doing sod all.
I am a driver at the main depot in hatfield, and xmas eve and day b4, every vehicle was out, thats over 200, plus all the other depots, 3 of which in london. we worked our butts off these last few days. if wasnt for over greedy people ordering way more stuff than they need, which a lot would prob end up in the trash, we would of taken more orders onto each than van and delivered to more people.
so the the blame is not just with ocado.

tribpot · 25/12/2011 19:10

tick73, I don't think anyone has had a go at individual members of Ocado staff, and I can imagine the last few days have been utterly exhausting, hope you get a chance to put your feet up.

MrsJamin · 01/01/2012 05:47

Tick73, wasn't there a £90 minimum instead of £40 so yes you would be delivering larger amounts to customers? I find it bizarre that you call customers greedy!

MyNameIsJason · 09/01/2012 22:07

I used to work for Ocado - maybe I can help you guys out.

Hi bigbadbarry and VajazzleMyFoof!

Sometimes it snows at christmas; this means Ocado delivery vans go more slowly (or not at all) and employees can't always make it into work. When you're booking a month or more in advance the weather forecast isn't reliable, so Ocado don't promise their full good weather capacity. Closer to the delivery day they can be more confident about the weather; this allowed them to release some extra routes.

While I can understand that you'd have preferred a better delivery date, Ocado basically think doing it this way is much better than offering you a slot on christmas eve then not being able to deliver!

Hi Gigondas,

Ocado holds back a little bit of capacity in each area to allocate to customers such as yourself, but sometimes this all gets used up. One of my friends at Ocado says they have heard your feedback, and are considering telling call centre employees not to tell callers what time new slots become available.

Hi roundcornsilkvirgin,

Unfortunately Ocado can't really afford to offer free christmas deliveries at this time. Maybe some day!

Hi EtInTerraPax,

Ocado tries to get the freshest goods they can and get them to your home as soon as possible, but we can only work with what we've got. Reminds me of funny story from my time at Ocado - one christmas a supplier (who shall remain nameless) sent us a delivery of turkeys that were all labelled as best before the 24rd of December! I don't think I've every seen anyone as stressed as people got in response to that! In the end bunch of us were sent to nearby supermarkets to buy as many turkeys as possible.

Some London homeless shelters were able to put on a feast that christmas eve, but we didn't end up making a profit that year. These days Ocado order a bunch more turkey than people have ordered just in case the same thing happens again. That's probably why those money-off vouchers were sent out; once the turkeys are in the warehouse (so they know the supplier won't let them down), no sense in letting them go to waste!

Hi puzzlesum,

I spoke to a friend at Ocado who tells me changes are in the works which they hope will reduce late deliveries. When I was at Ocado, we used to tell drivers to call you if they're running late, but pulling over to call can take a while so some drivers prefer not to add to the delay, which I can understand. I can assure you there is no policy of giving worse service to delivery pass customers.

Hi Jajas,

That's terrible, I'm astonished that happened! When I was at Ocado not only did they get a lot of turkeys into the warehouse, they also had extra spare turkeys around the delivery network just in case. Have you told [email protected] about your experience?

Hi tick73,

I don't work at Ocado any more, but I still buy from them and the CSTMs are a big part of that for me - your work is really appreciated by customers, especially during christmas week. Thanks!

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 09/01/2012 22:11

hahaha, and hello Jason Gissing!!!!

BleatingRose · 10/01/2012 10:33

Haha! Grin What do you do now you're no longer working 'for' Ocado Jason?

I always suspected your DW (that's Darling Wife) was a MNer.... Wink

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 10/01/2012 12:11

Annonymous post 'fail'.

Sorry Jason!

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 10/01/2012 12:12
