I'm knackered.

I have a young baby, the house is a tip, I have loads of present wrapping to do, food shop before Christmas, family to visit and still have presents to buy. I would love to paint my nails, have a glass of wine and put my feet up Xmas Grin - but it's just not an option as I have too much to do.

DH has two nights out this week - don't resent this for one moment as 1 is work and 1 is friends - first since baby.

My friends are planning a night out - do I go and have a bit of me time, but I know I'll feel a bit delicate the next day, or do I decline and get everything done but feel sad I'm missing out.

DH says go for it but I have so much to do I just feel so down about it all.

WWYD?

it sounds like you could do with a bit of a break so go out and enjoy yourself.

curiouscat · 21/12/2011 17:25

Definitely go out. You can always come home early if you're not in the mood. Good luck. Maybe leave your DH a job list too?

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 21/12/2011 17:26

I'm with your DH - go for it!

Then prioritise other tasks - so your house is a bit messy...so what?

See if anyone can help you - if you've got a young baby people do tend to offer help...you just need to take them up on it! Can DH do some of those tasks as well?

But you really really should go out....you'll feel better for it all in (though maybe not the morning after Wink).

RhondaGotStuckInTheChimneyRoo · 21/12/2011 17:26

Get DH to help.

Sit and paint your nails - it's an hour out of your day and you will then be less resentful of everything else you have to do.

Christmas is one day - don't kill yourself to have the 'perfect' day.

If your house is a tip, do the basics, leave the rest.

Wrap as basically as possible - forget fancy bows.

Most of all - DH helps.

It's not down to one person to organise Christmas.

YANBM

But you can fix this - just don't run yourself into the ground.

Pancakeflipper · 21/12/2011 17:27

I would go. Because otherwise I'd be a right cow sat at home grumping whilst my mates had fun. Don't have much to drink.

And give DH the wrapping paper and tags and list of what is for whom and let him get on with it.

RhondaGotStuckInTheChimneyRoo · 21/12/2011 17:28

Oh, go out and gossip/dance/have a good time. If you're worried about feeling rubbish the next day just don't have a drink - you can have fun without being trollied (apparently Blush )

NinkyNonker · 21/12/2011 17:28

Do it, DH can do much of what you are still to do while you are out.

inkyfingers · 21/12/2011 17:32

Go out! Promise yourself that tomorrow you'll do the one thing that's really bugging you - cleaning house, or getting the food in. Then there's Friday and Saturday

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 21/12/2011 17:33

I just gave my house a basic tidy - crap into bins, binbags to outside, hoover and washing up and laundry away, and it looks fine. One set of lights in the window - festive!

Presents are not compulsory and if you buy one nice thing each for your DP and DC you are doing well. Put them in gift bags?

Christmas Day - are you cooking? So it's a roast dinner. Get a turkey breast in a foil tin for the freezer. (I have! - I'm knackered, too. No predicting my energy levels on Christmas Day.)

Visiting people - why? Can't they drop in on you?

Take care and try to get some time to chill a bit. Xmas Smile

mumblechum1 · 21/12/2011 17:34

Total no brainer. Go out and have some fun.

flamegirl77 · 22/12/2011 00:05

You sound the tiniest bit martyrish. Go.

WorraLiberty · 22/12/2011 00:09

Why are you doing it all alone?

Get your DH to help and go out and enjoy yourself

Goolash · 22/12/2011 00:33

Go for it.

Do a list of things that need to be done. On the night you're out give him presents, wrapping paper etc. I hate typing that because he's already thought?

The rest of the presents? Another night, get on the floor, with all the wrapping bits. Pour wine. Wrap. Do nails. He pours more wine.

House? Sometime on Christmas Eve. Together 30 mins to 1.5 hours. You blast it together.

For the presents you haven't got. Research online, give dp some online prep to do. If you can reserve and collect with the likes of Argos do it. At least you can go out with a clear intent on what to buy.
