To think that a pair of boys' shoes should last more than...

2 months for a 'decent' pair (30-50?), 1 week for cheap ones (8?).

DS is 9, he has been through 20 pairs of shoes in the past 18 months. I'm talking holes worn in soles here.

Surely someone must make indestructible shoes?

when you say 20 prs, is that in total? ie shoes/trainers/boots etc?

i think DD has gone through close to that in the same time without wearing them out

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 13:47

Yeah all together, just seems like a lot for a boy of his age.

Does he drag his feet? All with worn out and holes in soles?

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 13:50

He doesn't drag his feet, but does run about a lot.

school shoes x 2

wellies x 3

winter boots x 2

sandals x 2

beach paddlers x 2

sandals x 2

'party' shoes x 2...

and ballet and tap shoes...

soon adds up Shock

no idea
dd1's first ever pair of school shoes (leather, but cheaper than clarks) haven't made it to the end of term. there were holes in the soles, and then a strap broke as well.

we are now on a £34 Shock pair of clarks (purchased in haste as the clarks concession in sainsburys was all we could get to) so I will see where buying the expensive ones gets us.......

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 13:52

All the shoes have holes in the soles and sometimes the top fabric comes away from the rubber bottoms IYSWIM.

And he only really has one pair at a time: trainers.

Glad it's not just me then. I have two DS's, one who wears through shoes in 2 weeks regardless of the make/brand and one who's shoes last until he outgrows them. Can't figure out what they are doing different.

The best shoes I have ever bought for the shoe destroyer was a pair of kickers on eBay. Lasted a whole term.

Florin · 21/12/2011 14:01

I think it's how they walk no experience of dc's yet as stil pregnant with my first however my husband goes through an obscene amount of shoes. He does walk about a lot in London as he hate getting the tube but still I have never seen anything like it. We have tried expensive shoes like churches and Loakes, now we just stock pile work shoes at Clarks outlet stores. However I want him to have gait analysis to see if there is a problem with how he walks.

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 14:06

I'll try Kickers (in the sales) and see if they last any longer. I fully expect a child to grow out of their shoes, not destroy them within seconds.

My 23 year just had to take a pair of boots back and got her money back as they had cracks going through the soles after 17 days - not worn every day - and she just walks in them, I think the quality is just poorer these days! Glad mine now pay for their footwear themselves!

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 14:20

I tried to take a pair of Geox back, the shop told me to contact Geox, who then told me it was 'normal pew ear and tear'.

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 14:20

Oops, autocorrect fail.

'normal wear and tear'

what are the soles made of? rubber soles last longer than plastic

VikingWenceslas · 21/12/2011 14:43

He prefers trainers, and I think the soles are mostly rubber. With more casual shoes he says he can't run about properly. Maybe I should buy him a pair of really rigid thick leather boots to keep him still so he can't wear them out so quickly.
