Mooncup as a present

BlissfulMistletoe · 21/12/2011 00:18

My 15 year old sister knows I use a mooncup, not like I broadcast it but got caught short when sleeping over.

I asked her what she want for Christmas and she has said a Mooncup, what I am asking is would you get this as a gift.

IF she has asked for it, then fine, as she would know what to expect, and be able to open it discreetly. I certainly wouldnt buy one for someone as a surprise though.

Bunbaker · 21/12/2011 00:22

If that's what she really wants I suppose I would. There is no way I would get one as a surprise present though.

WorraLiberty · 21/12/2011 00:22

What Squeaky said.

Fine if she's asked for it

Not so fine to buy as someone's secret santa....

GoingForGoalWeight · 21/12/2011 00:24

YANBU! - buy it for her :)

Is the mooncup better than tampax, santary towels?

Selks · 21/12/2011 00:26

Get it for her...but warn her she may have to explain what it is to the rest of the family if she opens her gift in front of them....Blush

KateShmate · 21/12/2011 00:26

I guess, if shes asked for it!
But maybe give it to her when you next see her, as an early xmas present - and then something small on Xmas day with family.
I know you Mooncupper's love the things, but at the end of the day its still a Sanitary Product - same as opening a box of Tampax at Xmas Grin

BlissfulMistletoe · 21/12/2011 00:26

From my experience, yes I no longer suffer painful periods, can't wear tampons and pads make me itch...... Thank god for the poster who first posted about it around a 18 months ago

I would really be grateful if somebody bought me a mooncup for Christmas . Go ahead and buy it . It's a practical present , much better than buying useless tat IMO.

Spartak · 21/12/2011 00:35

I would buy it for her rather than give a voucher. I would have been so embarrassed buying one myself at that age, and would not want to have to ask or go searching for it, identify correct size in public etc.

WorraLiberty · 21/12/2011 00:35

You could tie a ribbon to the stem and hang it on the tree Xmas Grin

iscream · 21/12/2011 00:42

Voucher sounds good. You could go with her shopping for moral support if she is embarrassed.

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 21/12/2011 01:00

I'd go for it. Normally, I'm of the mind that gifts should be a luxury, something that the recipient wouldn't necessarily have the spare cash to buy for themselves. However, as a skint student (again!), I'm actually hoping for some practical gifts this year. In fact, my folks, sisters and I are doing Secret Santa this year, we set a ?250 limit, so emailed around suggestions, so as to give each other ideas as to what to buy. Was tempted to put a Mooncup on my list, but knew none of my family would want to go buy me one (especially if my Dad got me), so didn't. Unfortunately! Would love to get one as a gift.

Maybe just give your wee sister a heads up first, in case she would be embarassed opening up a gift of a Mooncup in front of the family.

squeakytoy · 21/12/2011 01:05

250E limit????? how bloody expensive are these things?

blondechristmas · 21/12/2011 01:07

It's better than some pre-seed and a pack of 20 ov tests. Which I was tempted to put on my amazon wish list.

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 21/12/2011 02:37

Hehe Squeaky, don't actually know how much they cost - have looked in every pharmacy near me, and not a Mooncup to be found. Will have to order one online when my wallet recovers from Christmas Grin. Our ?250 limit is to keep costs down - is our first year doing secret Santa, previously we have all bought gifts for everyone, and my family go way, way overboard. I spent 2 fucking grand on them last year. Never again! Thankfully, am a poor student now, so it's not an option. Fucking Christmas! Would still love a Mooncup as a gift though, but it's not going to happen, given that when I explained what one was to my Mum, she reacted with such horror, you'd think I suggested shoving a pinecone up my fanjo as an alternative to tampons!

CheshireDing · 21/12/2011 02:53

£2,000!!!!!

I hope it was a car Grin

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 21/12/2011 03:25

That would have at least been a useful way to blow the money, Cheshire. Nope, it all went on clothes, make-up and other shite for the sisters, then on cards and giftwrap. Insanity! Anyway, sorry for the hijack, OP. I do tend to prattle on. Still, get your sis the Mooncup. She wants one, and at 15, I'd have been way too bashful to buy one myself. I actually think it's a great gift for a big sister to get for a wee sister.
