oh gawd it makes me want to SCREAM

I understand one handed typing (NAK or multi-tasking etc.)
Or small, quick messages when you're in a rush( 'cld u plz cal me')
Or use of slang/in jokes with a close friend/DP
I can even grit my teeth be understanding if you don't have much credit left and are trying to squeeze all relevant information into one text

but when two grown women with professional qualifications, with free contact mobiles with unlimited free SMS, just having an interaction regarding when we might be able to meet up I'm hoping for better than:

'Yes.bt iv gt cold on my bak..its so chily. Yeh,wud b nice2 c u. Du u go out muj?'

Du I????????

AIBU to expect, prefer, long for 'proper' texts.

YANBU I can cope with a little bit of abbreviating but things like ov instead of of I just really really don't get Xmas Confused

My MIL will only ever text in capitals and has only recently realised that you can send messages longer than what you can see on the screen!

YANBU! This is a real bug-bear of mine, especially when, as mentioned, it's not character-saving (i.e. du/do, woz/was)! It's supposed to be a method of communication, but I usually find it a massive hindrance! It may save the writer 2 minutes of writing but wastes me 2 hours of deciphering!!
XxX

I just Don't Do Textspeak.

It's all kinds of wrong.

I think all phones now have predictive text, and are no longer limited to 100 characters per text or whatever it used to be, so it's no more difficult typing out the full word.

My favourites are when someone's phone has autocorrected something and you spend 10 minutes trying to work out what they were actually trying to write!

I loathe text speak. YANBU.
