To think this is a crap substitution

Have just had an ASDA delivery of all my christmas food, minus the fresh bits that I will pick up closer to the day.

As part of the order I ordered 2 trays of frozen 'pigs in blankets'

They have sent me:

2 packs of frozen sausages and 2 packs of bacon.

Now I can see the idea behind this, make your own, even though they are the wrong type of saugages BUT

The bacon has a use by date of the 21st!!

It is surely clear to whoever is packing the shopping that the 'pigs in blankets' are likely to be part of a christmas day meal and so the substitutions are crap.

They also missed off the sage and onion stuffing mix and the mint sauce, no substitutions in the whole store apparantly.

AIBU to think this is really crappy.

I could make my own yes, and I wouldn't normally mind but would have liked the bacon to have a longer date on it and would have liked small sausgaes so it looks better.

It may not make any difference but when having lots of people round for dinner presentation is everything hence I buy ready made one's as they look so much better.

Now found out I have been charged and extra £2.40 for the wrong items which is a bit annoying.

Are they supposed to charge you the price of the substitution or the original item?

If they bring sausages that are too long, you can always put a few extra twists in them to turn them into cocktail sausages -- but frozen smartprice ming? Do they seriously just dump this stuff on you without giving you the chance to say that it's ming and you don't want it?

I would think that the cost of bacon and sausages bought separately would be more than a bag of frozen ready made ones - they'll always charge you the price of the originally ordered product unless the substitutions are cheaper; ie they'll always charge you the cheaper price. It should be clear from the top of your receipt. If they haven't just call them and complain; they're always pretty good about refunding IME

if you made them before the 21st and froze them I'm sure they would be fine

sorry about the SPD btw - it's a bugger. Take care of yourself.

They do give you a chance to say no splinters but the delivery note just said sausages so didn't realise what we had until they had gone.

foosty They have sent smartprice replacements when I ordered the more expensive extra special one's in the first place hence the substitutions being cheaper and it looks like they have charged for the original products, can't see any discount or refund on the delivery note anywhere.

YANBU. I'd be cross too. If I wanted to make sodding pigs in blankets I'd have ordered the ingredients separately. It's not a question of difficulty, it's a question of choice. Ready-mades are delicious and also save faffing around. Not all of us are Rebecca of Fucking Sunnybrook Farm, y'know.

I don't do online shopping but this I would complain of OP. Especially since you appear to have been overcharged too.

Sorry - but it made me laugh. 'Here's ya saussies, here's ya bacon - de it yaself luv'.

I'd call them and see what they can do.

squeakytoy · 19/12/2011 17:22

I am surprised that they would have bacon so close to its use by date. Most bacon has at least a month on it when it is on the shelf, so it just proves my point that they give internet customers all the battered, bruised, and short dated crap.

OP, send your husband out to the shops for you.
