£1 is all it would cost to buy a bag of food for the emanuels and my boyfriend reckons I shouldn't buy it if I'm complaining that I'm short of money.

AIBU to think £1 is well worth keeping them going through the winter?

I am actually crying

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 14:47

The Emanuels in my garden love the seeds but totally ignore the peanuts and suet balls. I feel oddly stung by this rejection of my offerings. Does anyone else have very picky Emanuels?

pinkdelight · 19/12/2011 14:49

Tobin Emanuel. Let's start a thread in babynames!

So giddy now. How am I meant to get ANY work done??

SydneyLa · 19/12/2011 14:50

oh god I've really started something here!

anyway, my emmanuels are actually picky about the brand of seeds I get. They like the one I get from the local farm/pet shop as opposed to the cheaper bag from the shop. I have a suet block up at the moment which the robin tobin and starlings like

I thought you had Elizabeth and David in your shed...do splash out £1 to keep them alive I think while they hand-sew all those Wedding dresses you plan to flood Ebay with in the Spring Xmas Grin

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 14:53

Mine don't seem picky about the seeds but will not touch the peanuts or suet balls. Both the latter are in rather modern dispensers - perhaps they are afraid of them?

SydneyLa · 19/12/2011 14:55

lol @ POL Grin

Snowey, when you say modern, do you mean silver/shiney? or are they wooden?
I've heard metal type things can put them off

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 14:59

The peanuts are in this and the suet balls are in this. Perhaps they scare them?

Mn Classic? Or no? I've read this thread like 5 times now

Kladdkaka · 19/12/2011 15:51

My poor deranged husband loses sleep over the plight of the Swedish emanuals. He puts food out every night for them. If it's all gone the next morning then he worries about the ones who didn't get any so puts more out. We have dozens of emanual feeders with a smorgasbord of nuts and seeds. I pretty sure he's feeding the entire emanual population of Scandinavia.

OrmIrian · 19/12/2011 15:54

Sniggering quietly at this...

When you feed them you could sing...

"Oh come, oh come emmanuels...."

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 15:56

The posh feeders were a present. The Emanuels love the cheap seed one I bought. I may have to buy some more cheap ones and just view he posh ones as decoration...

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 19/12/2011 15:57

Of all the emanuels I like the tobins best, YANBU to treat them OP

mynewpassion · 19/12/2011 15:58

My deranged father feeds the squirrels and he had to chase off an alpha squirrel for keeping other squirrels from the food. He puts out feed every day in the trough for them.

Fo0ffysFestiveShmooffery · 19/12/2011 15:59

I've never cried laughing at a thread before this. Grin maybe it's the PMT.

Seona1973 · 19/12/2011 16:00

I put food out for the local emanuels and tobins today. We have a fat cake in a feeder, peanuts, a suet sprinkle/seed mix in a feeder and seed in a seed tray. I get the food cheap from Home Bargains.

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 19/12/2011 16:02

O come o come e-ma-a-a-nu-el

I don't tend to feed the emmanuels. Because feeding them, means a ready meal for our cats. And next door's cat too. Otherwise I would.
