12 yr old watching the new Inbetweeners DVD?

Please settle this argument for us please. I have some friends round this evening with their ds aged 12 (I also have 12 year old.)
I recently bought this dvd for me and dh to watch without my ds around.
I mentioned we'd bought it and everyone wants to watch it.
My friends and dh are up for watching it, I'm not keen.

I don't think I'd have a problem with a 12 yo watching it, but I wouldn't want to watch it with them. Very awkward!

It is quite rude actually - I'm normally fairly laid back about films/ages etc but I would suggest you watched it yourself before you let your 12 yo so you can judge. I had a friend ask me the same regarding her 13yo and I said I probably wouldn't recommend it just for the cringe factor watching it with your own son.

lisaro · 18/12/2011 22:41

I am quite easy on age guides and certainly no prude but absolutely not a 12 year old. I'd say about 14. The film is bloody hilarious though, so be aware when you watch it you will be roaring loudly.

Ifancyashandy · 18/12/2011 22:44

Clung. And that bloke doing unspeakable things to a granny on a dance floor.

Tha's all I'm sayin'.

LordOfTheFlies · 18/12/2011 22:45

If my DS was older ,maybe 14 or so, I'd let him watch it to show him what pillocks teenage boys can be.

Though DH and I were discussing which of the 4 we'd like DS to turn out like (if we were forced to pick one)
I reckoned Neil (the tall thin one) I like the way he just comes out with things "I've got a job in Chessington World of Adventures" ; "I've passed my test. Why didn't I tell you. ?You didn't ask" ; I got some woman in Asda pregnant"...oh maybe not Confused

MrsPennySworth · 18/12/2011 22:47

Oh yeah ifancy the granny dance floor scene . Yes probably not appropriate for a 12yo. Very funny though Xmas Grin

Getting taught about masturbation is not the same as showing them a guy wanking in a gimp mask to a prostituted woman on the Internet is it?

I mean if that was the case we'd be showing kids A Serbian Film and telling them it had torture in it 'like the Nazis' and some 'sex like mummy and daddy do'.

Hmm

I'm honestly horrified that anyone would think this is suitable for a 12 year old.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/12/2011 22:50

And I laughed a lot at the inbetweeners so I'm not some prudish nut job

AtAmber · 18/12/2011 22:55

My 12 yo ds has just been telling me that all his friends watch the tv series and he should be allowed to watch the film. I was starting to think that maybe I'm too strict but after reading this he wo t be watching it!

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 18/12/2011 22:58

No, Laurie, no, we wouldn't be doing that. Not in this house, anyway.

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 18/12/2011 22:59

CardyMow · 19/12/2011 00:26

Nooooo. 13yo DD wouldn't be watching this. Not until she is old enough to buy it herself.

xyfactor · 19/12/2011 01:08

It's a funny film but it's a no no for under 15's.
In my opinion that is :)

TroublesomeEx · 19/12/2011 03:36

Not. A. Chance.

I'm surprised at the things my DS's friends are allowed to watch. They're in year 8. They all seem to watch The Inbetweeners, Misfits, Fresh Meat...

Wormshuffler · 19/12/2011 06:45

My 12 year old wouldn't understand alot of it.

Ilovedaintynuts · 19/12/2011 10:02

It's fantastically funny - my 14 year old watches it but I wouldn't let a 12 year old - no way - it is very rude and innappropriate.

They discuss tits, fanny (clunge!), penises and masturbating ALL the way through.

clare458 · 19/12/2011 12:03

Thanks for your replies. I watched it last night with dh (ds in bed) and was very glad and relieved he wasn't watching it with us and he won't be watching it until he's AT LEAST 15.
We did think it was funny though. It's their parents and headteacher that crack us up! Grin

I love the Inbetweeners in a cringey way but there is no way that I would want DS (13) to watch it, although "all of my friends have seen it Mum and it's so unfair "
