To get the arse with the DDs because they keep using our champagne flutes to drink juice from?

It just really pisses me off, they were a wedding present and are quite fragile, they are also not supposed to be put in the dishwasher so I have to carefully hand wash them.

DH thinks I'm making a mountain out of a molehill but why can't they use normal sodding beakers or glasses.

Get them some cheap white wine glasses from ASDA. My dc like drinking out of them too Xmas Grin

YonderRevoltingPeasantWhoIsHe · 18/12/2011 13:24

Just tell them not to? Confused

Though when we were children we drank juice out of special 'fairy glasses' my mum let us use. It was only when I was about 19 that I realised they were shot glasses Grin

HeadfirstForGabrielsHalo · 18/12/2011 13:25

Arf at "fairy glasses" Xmas Grin

IHeartKingThistle · 18/12/2011 13:26

Um, put them away?

TeamSledward · 18/12/2011 13:27

Ha! Our special "fairy glasses" were sherry glasses. Grin

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 18/12/2011 13:27

How old are your DD's? Could you not put them out of reach?

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 18/12/2011 13:28

my youngest son loves to drink milk from a wine glass Grin I bought a set of 4 crappy wine glasses for a quid and the really nice ones are at the back of the glasses cupboard. I suggest you do the same.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/12/2011 13:30

I bought my dds some el cheapo plastic goblets, for that very reason!

why don't you put them away out of reach? Surely thats your responsibility.

ratspeakeratsolstice · 18/12/2011 13:38

Put them up out of reach or stored away until you need them.
Your DD probably think they look nice/different and thats why they want to use them. Out of sight out of mind
get some cheap dishwasher safe glasses for everyday use

I got some plastic fluted glasses in the summer, can't remember which supermarket it was though

MrsChemist · 18/12/2011 13:45

these might be handy

eurochick · 18/12/2011 13:46

Have you considered telling them not to and enforcing that?

schroeder · 18/12/2011 13:51

How often do you drink champagne?

We keep our glasses in their original box and only get them out for special occaisions.

CreamolaFoamless · 18/12/2011 14:01

I've never understood 'posh' glasses and plates and stuff.

It wouldn't bother me but that's because one glass is much the same as any other glass to me. I hate it if someone hands me a glass and says 'They're the good glasses' it makes me nervous, some disaster will inevitably follow

ChippyMinton · 18/12/2011 14:03

Hmm Just put them away and tell them not to use them.

My parents always collected the glasses that french mustard came in,for the kids to use, something that DH and I continue to do. And a shelf of heavy duty tumblers for everyday use.

FrothingBeserker · 18/12/2011 14:07

seriously?

either put them out of reach, tell your children to start behaving, or stop caring.

glasses are glasses. I've never yet managed to break a wine or champagne glass (really hoping this curses me - we have far too many of the damn things, and wouldn't miss a few in the slightest Grin).

oh, and bung them in the dishwasher. they'll be fine. ours always are (unfortunately) and they are poncey and etched.

MrsHoarder · 18/12/2011 14:08

I would have no problem with this, but that's because our wedding champagne flutes look a bit like this.

See if you can grab them something similar as a Christmas present (special juice glasses for your favourite girls) and problem solved.

COCKadoodledooo · 18/12/2011 14:14

Jeez. Am constantly stunned at the number of kids around who don't understand that no means NO.

TeamSledward · 18/12/2011 14:15

Anyone else's parents still have the "petrol station glasses"?

COCKadoodledooo · 18/12/2011 14:29

Mine do TeamSledward but rather fewer of them than they once did, because dh and I took some when we set up home together 14 years ago! Bloody good value they were - twenty quid a pop but think of all the free petrol Xmas Wink

TeamSledward · 18/12/2011 14:40

Yep, my parent's glasses looking a bit rough now, due to the dishwasher, but still going strong 25+ years on!

troisgarcons · 18/12/2011 16:29

the wine glasses with the green stem? they go for a small fortune on eBay - I no longer have any! Grin

dontletthebellsend · 18/12/2011 16:32

My mother has

petrol station glasses
Nutella glasses, all at least 20 years old
Nice crystal glasses (not for using)

mrsjay · 18/12/2011 16:41

put them away so they cant use them I dont see why your not doing this anyway , get dh to wash them every time he will get pissed off doing it , You can buy plastic glasses if your DDs likes the fanciness of the glasses , but put them away so they cant use them
