I have a puppy and everyone has an opinion. I took her to a market today, she should have a coat on, yes I freaking know that, but I left the house just to drop my son off and decided to carry on at the last minute to a market. She shoudn't be walking, a responsible owner would carry her, I was told, well she's five months old and she needs to walk, she must be starving said another because she tried to scoff every left over chip on the floor and I wouldn;;t let her, actually no she is well fed she's just a piggy who will eat what she can get her paws on.

I know they are well meaning but this is one top of people saying she shouldn't be out yet as she's too young, she's small she's not young.

Tnere were much younger puppies whose owners weren't getting all the "advice" because despite being two months youjnger they are twice s big as my dog.

Sorry moan over.

All dogs eat stuff, mine never wears a coat, and I'd not carry a five month old dog.

NinkyNonker · 17/12/2011 18:46

Why would you need to put her in a coat? Someone else would've commented if you did. And why carry her, unless she is a teeny breed at risk of being crushed in a market?

AFuckingFestiveKnackeredWoman · 17/12/2011 18:50

your dog was wearing a coat - its fur coat!

deemented · 17/12/2011 18:51

Manshapes ma does a nice line in knitted dog coats. Want her details? Wink

Or "mind her own"!! She's a staffie Cross and she's a soft dollop but would eat all day every day if she could.

She does have a coat but today's shopping was very much an off the cuff impromptu session and she loved it. I actually couldn't believe she walked the whole way around a very busy outdoor market for about 90 minutes, she was brilliant and I felt so proud of her.

On walking away from the house she will put her butt down and refuse to walk, she just wants to go home. She is driven to a mile away from home and dropped off then my son walks her home she can't get home quick enough. She kind of operates her own one way system.

I think people feel protective because she is little but fgs I am too, love her to bits and wouldn't let her starve, freeze or wear herself out god forbid by actually walking!!!.

On the plus side loads of people stopped us just to fuss her which was lovely.

You are so right about labradors, BeerGrinch - ours has never met a calorie she didn't love! The list of things she has eaten during her 2.5 years of life, is long and impressive. The highlight was 4.5kg of dried dog food when one of the dses left the cupboard that the bag was in open. She looked like a barrel on legs, was distinctly slower on her paws than normal, and couldn't curl up in her bed. We didn't feed her for a couple of days, and then only tiny bits. Didn't stop her trying to flirt food from us, though.

I bet the toilet habits were fun disposing of that log STDG ;-)

Beer when I became a new mum I only had problems with my Mum as it was my way or the highway to risk sounding all Jerry Springer.

I have been told: it is cruel to feed her only Burns (biscuits) yet RSPCA and local pet shop recommend it as she was undernourished due to being separated from the Mum too young before I got her

I should brick in my drains incase she drowns. FFS!! I don't have a swmming pool just a down drain from my bathroom.

Yep - she did some almighty poos that week, sitandnatter - only half digested too (sorry, tmi).

Yes - chocolate lab, BeerGrinch (pic on my profile) - an eating machine. No wonder the vet issues Dire Warnings about weight gain every time he sees us - she's not overweight, but it would seem to be her life's ambition to become overweight!

Sitandnatter - we feed our dog just dry dog food, and she is flourishing on it - full of energy and life and a very happy dog. I just wish we could afford the running costs of a second dog - she has enhanced our lives so much, and she has such fun whenever she meets another dog, that it would be lovely for all of us if we had another lab - but I think we'd have to sell one of the children to afford the bills for another dog...

OP, everyone has an opinion on how you bring up your dog. It's worse than being out with DC.

Couldn't agree more. Going out with the DC and a huge black dog wearing a muzzle is always a treat. I can see them hoisting their judgy pants at fifty paces.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 17/12/2011 20:48

Blimey. The only coat mine wears is a reflective one so I can spot her when we're out and she doesn't get splatted by a car if she runs for the road.

Rudolfsgottarednose · 17/12/2011 20:57

I have been very tempted to by my GS dog a Barbour coat for Christmas Blush

NinkyNonker · 17/12/2011 21:01

Ahhhh, we have a Staffie Cross, with Collie we think. She is bonkers. Grin
