To think that the lady who did the preschool calenders should be told they're crap?

Our preschool asked us all to buy a personalised calender and a card..the calander would have a photo on it and the card a painting done by our DC.

The original photo's were displayed at the Christmas fair so we could order which pic. we wanted on the calander....and the original paintings by our DC so we could choose one for a card...or a set of cards.....the price was £8.00 for a calander and one card...or 3.50 for just a calender...and another couple of deals whch I have forgotten.

I was happy to order a calender and a card...it all goes towards the preschool so a good cause...I also volunteer there when they need help.

When the "calender" arrived it was a laminated piece of A4 cardboard with an actual photo on it and a photocopy of a calender...tiny...and blurred so actually useless since many of the dates are unreadable and also about as big as grains of sand....the card was a photocopy of DDs painting which had been glued onto a colored piece of card and folded over. Xmas Shock

They were all done and organised by a couple of Mums who fair enougnt a lot of time over them....am I pathetic to suggest they use a proper company next time? THey always have offers on.

So I paid almost ten pounds for a lot of crap which I could have made myself!WIBU to suggest that next time they contact one of the many companies that do professional printed cards for similar prices? In fact I think I remember paying less than than for my older DDs cards when she was in her last school and they were lovely....is this the usual thing that preschools offer?

Why don't you offer to help next year? I am sure the committee would welcome new members, it is very easy to criticise but much harder to get involved and do something constructive Xmas Smile.

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2011 16:10

Blimey, a couple of parents at my DS's school produced the same sort of calendar and only charged £1 Shock

Yes it's a bit shit but for a quid (that goes to school funds) you wouldn't mind.

pigletmania · 17/12/2011 16:12

OMG that is awful! My dd made a calendar like that and a card last year at her pre school, and it was free. I still have it and keep it in here art folder. £8 I am Shock, and I thought professional school photos were expensive.

AmberLeaf · 17/12/2011 16:15

I would expect that sort of thing to be free.

Paying that much I would expect a reasonable level of quality.

rag I already do...as I mentioned in my post...I help all the time.

wow, we also got the same but much better quality for free!

Ragwort · 17/12/2011 16:18

Stupid - sorry, read too quickly. Xmas Blush.

Then yes, you have every right to gently suggest using X company next year and perhaps showing them some examples of what can be produced.

pigletmania · 17/12/2011 16:18

DDs one was on a piece of card, included a little drawing, hand print, photo of her, and a lovely tear jerking poem all laminated with a little calendar attatched underneath, it too pride of place on my wall all year, I have only just put it away, and have her recent contribution on my wall.

StupidLikeButton · 17/12/2011 16:18

That's what I thought people...it seemed moe like something they might make with the DC>...I think I will offer to do an easter craft with the DC which can then be bought...for a pound or two! Or maybe get a leaflet from one of those companies that do printed cards...and give themto the manager. I felt ripped when they arrived!

Our school had really nicely made professional looking cards (not sure who made them but they were lovely quality) for £5 a pack of 10, with the DCs Christmas drawings on. We got one card free as a sample and then could order as many as we wanted to buy.

pigletmania · 17/12/2011 16:20

I love it, I would pay £8 for it if it went towards the school, only because its from dd and its such a lovely calendar well thought out.

StupidLikeButton · 17/12/2011 16:23

Pom that's like what my older DD had at her last school....these were roper printd cards in a cellophane packetwith her nam printed on the back too! They were about 5.00 for 5 cards...which was fine as they were proper cards!
