What I mean is that seems that lots of people are using pink for girls and blue for boys!

As an example, I just saw the following exchange on a local FB page:

A woman is looking for a little weight pushchair.
Other woman said 'I got one'
1st woman: 'which colour'
2nd woman: 'blue'
1st woman: 'oh no, it's for a girl'

Since when girls can't be in a blue pushchair?!?

I have a boy and he has never been waering baby blue clothes!!

Growlithe you speak such sense.

GrimmaTheNome · 16/12/2011 21:35

Have you never been in Toys R Us? There's a whole 'pink aisle'!

Sensible people of course just buy whichever colour they or their DC likes. My DD has lots of 'boy' stuff.

Oh MrsDeVere I am truly Envy

Pink is my favourite colour and one of the most flattering for my colorouing according to Colour me Beautiful. I'm also good in soft greys, blues, heathers, and brigher teals and anything with an underlying blue tone.

DS is my colouring and would have looked gorgeous in pink - never dared though and from about the age of 3 he would have refused adamantly.

DD is probably better suited to stronger colours but at the age of about 5/6 developed an affinity for pink/purple.

When DS was a baby the nursery was pink because that was the colour it was painted when we moved in. Between babies we painted in lemon/blue just in case and dd was born! We kept the pink carpet and even a brief experience in that bedroom now is like sinking into a bowl of angel delight.

You know I always kind of wondered why people match the pram to the baby and not to the color they like.

I push the damned thing. I pick it out. It's my accessory.

Mrs deVere this house needs repainting and refurbishing from top to bottom. Is presently a terracotta/blue version of 90's chic! Was thinking of something Orla Kiehlyesque. Am now thinking soft sages, creams and pastel pinks with perhaps a little raspberry thrown in.

Getting quite excited - and I don't need to consult with DS, do I .......?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 16/12/2011 21:48

Sounds lovely.
I have a bit of rasperry in my bedroom.
The rest of the house is a rose pink. Unfortunately it is now discontinued eeek! I have found a paint called 'Butterfly wing' which is very appropriate for us.
I am gearing up to a paintathon in the new year.
Consult? I dont think so.
I had a wee bit of trouble with DS1 when I painted the door barbie pink (it is now baby pink) because the boy across the road said it was 'gay' Hmm

I saw it as an educational opportunity. We had an interesting for me discussion about gender sterotyping. I think I bored him into submission

Tee hee.

i have twins..... One is usally in blue the other in green... OMG will i scar them for life?
just to add they are both rarther too fond of their sister wardrobe as well

PenguinArmy · 16/12/2011 21:54

DD had a blue buggy (two actually), DS has all her old pink blankets etc (were brought for us)

They don't have the whole pink clothes only thing for girls in the US (well not in CA), I was surprised as it seems quite easy to blame all consumer issues on 'Americanization'

redexpat · 16/12/2011 22:44

Assistats in shops kept asking me if babygros etc should be for a boy or a girl? I answered for a child.

The pink for girls and blue for boys only pisses me off when those are the only two choices.

PenguinArmy · 17/12/2011 15:14

I've just seen on my fb that my cousin is selling her brand new blue/green highchair because she wants a pink one. Turns out she'd brought a load of blue stuff because she felt she was going to have a boy.
