To use Xmas in place of Christmas?

I always write Christmas on cards, but I had a notepad with ideas for presents on called

'Xmas 2011'

My father saw it (not the contents thank god!) when I was visiting and told me off for using Xmas as I was essentially deleting Jesus Christ from Christmas.

I was raised Catholic but am of a 'meh' mentality in regards to religion, I don't know so I can't say I believe iyswim.

So AIBU? Should I never use Xmas?

No, you shouldn't.

Kayano · 16/12/2011 17:54

I would understand if I had written it on his card or something but this was a shorthand list on a ratty old notepad, that was mine Confused

What struck me as odd was that he would have taken less issue with 'seasonal shopping 2011'

I felt bad then didn't know how bad to feel Confused

rushofbloodtothefeet · 16/12/2011 17:56

Christmas is a religious festival. The older pagan one is Yule.

Do you think that might please him better?

Kayano · 16/12/2011 18:04

usual Tell me about it. You should have seen the drama caused when we discuss a c of e marriage and baptising this baby. Religion in my family stresses me out!

I remember our minister explaining it as writing a letter to Mr X ie not using the name.

Chrimbo and Chrimble are less stabby inducing IMHO (again, can't explain why)

startail · 16/12/2011 18:12

Guilty, I've used it here several times. Lazy typist.
DD1 gets in a huff about it for no particularly good reason. Being dyslexic and incapable of spelling Christmas you'd of thought she'd approveConfused
