to wonder if it was really necessary for this woman to tut

at me in Co-op when I dropped a croissant on the floor. I wasn't really annoyed that she tutted just a bit Xmas Hmm, it was an accident. Her child started fingering all the bakery products when I had moved away and even pretended to put one in his mouth before putting it back on the shelf Xmas Shock

Did you pick it up or just kick it under the counter op Grin

itsstartingtofeelalotlikexmas · 16/12/2011 16:11

sometimes it's an automatic reflex to tut

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 16/12/2011 16:15

I picked it up and then stood looking a bit gormless holding it for a bit, didn't really know the protocol for this. I thought if a member of staff appeared I could tell them that I'd dropped it (dunno what I thought they'd do about it). But no one appeared so I put it on an empty shelf nearby and scuttled off Xmas Blush

well that is a bit shocking tbh
you should have taken it to the checkout and told them what happened
some poor bugger might buy it and eat it not knowing it's been on the floor

Sossiges · 16/12/2011 16:17

Member of staff would probably put it back anyway (after watching you disappear around the corner)

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 16/12/2011 16:21

I did feel a bit bad about it but the shelving that I put it on wasn't in use and looked a bit rusty anyway. I don't think I would have eaten it from there. She did tut when I dropped the croissant not when I scuttled off.

Some people just tut, it's what they do

but they all die in the end

Sossiges · 17/12/2011 18:08

Very philosophical Tardly
Xmas Smile

celticlassie · 17/12/2011 19:09

And they probably don't die from eating croissants that have fallen on the floor...

KittyFane · 17/12/2011 19:17

:(
A blank look followed by "Are you tutting at me?" could possibly shut a person up.
People don't expect a response when they are being a miserable old sour puss a bit tetchy.

thebigkahuna · 17/12/2011 19:19

"well that is a bit shocking tbh"

Putting a croissant on an empty shelf? Really? Shocking?

Scoundrel · 17/12/2011 19:23

I managed to drop a relatively expensive bar of dark chocolate on the floor in tesco today breaking it into many pieces. I caught the eye of the woman stood right by me and laughed, then said oops and put it back. If the next person needs it to be in one piece then they will check that it is.

I'm a cheeky sod, me Xmas Grin

I am loving the very Britishness of this thread.

rhondajean · 17/12/2011 19:26

IVe tutted without meaning to at times. Its kinda meant to be in a sympathetic way but I dont think it comes over like that all the time.

I dont mean it, honest, Im usually just thinking, least it wasnt me this time.

KateMiddlet0n · 17/12/2011 19:29

Not only would I have tutted but I think I'd probably have pffft'd a bit.

And maybe let DS lick the baked goods.

Mollydoggerson · 17/12/2011 19:30

She is probably so used to tuttin at her child that she just blurted the tut out without thinkin6.

GoingForGoalWeight · 17/12/2011 19:51

Passive aggression never works with me! I would have brought the sales assistyant to the shelf and told her the bakery goods had been licked by her brat [evilgrin]
