to buy this after Christmas

DSs have asked for an expensive item for Christmas. I just know that it will be in the sale after Christmas. AIBU to wait till after the big day to buy it for them instead of scrimping on food shopping to afford it full price?

Well it depends on what you see as 'scrimping' on food shopping really and what the item is.

One word of warning though, my DS1's Birthday is Jan 9th and I've always had to buy his gifts before Christmas because the shops are usually sold out of popular things.

How are they Belini?

I think if they are old enough to 'get' the concept of money they are more than happy to wait.

I was struggling with ideas for my eldest (18) and showed him what i was thinking of getting him on-line and his reaction was 'yes I'd love that but don't you dare buy it now, it'll be half price come boxing day'

He'll be getting daft presents on Christmas day, silly stocking filler things then his main present will be purchased after Christmas.

The reductions happen on Boxing Day now (not January 1st as was the case when I was wee) so be frugile as a family if they will understand and hold off and buy it on boxing day

YABU to scrimp and save purely for the sake of an expensive christmas present. All that you are doing is giving your kids the wrong message.

TBH it depends on the age of your children. Mine asks for money so he can hit Bluewater on Boxing Day. But he's canny and knows the value of a penny. And he will research for ages on the net so he knows if something is artificially marked up beforehand and dropped to a normal price after.

CreamolaFoamless · 15/12/2011 21:02

troisgarcons I have one of those boy's too!

Very canny with money and does the research to make sure if he's paying good money for a bargin it is actually genuinely a bargin .

I'd hope that comes from us parents teaching them about the value of items and being frugile in their spending ....but that might just be wishful thinking

What are you thinking of getting them Belini?

Belini · 15/12/2011 21:18

Sorry people have been experiencing "technical difficulties". DSs are 13, 6 and 4 and asked for a computer. I have inside information that one I was looking at is going to have £100 off in the sale and will also get a discount if said insider buys it. DS1 will totally understand and was thinking of doing a note for the younger two from the elves to say they are running a bit behind as they have been so busy but that a special gift is on its way in the post.

I think the idea of running a bit late is cool. I would have believed that at age 4 & 6 .

Perhaps if you definately know your are able to get the computer , you could maybe get a picture/photo of it and attach it to the note from the elves?

Computers are heavy after all and if Santa had to deliver loads of computers he would surley have to do it in stages or his sleigh would never get off the ground

For what it i worth , I would hang off and purchase it when the price goes down , but make it exciting so your two little one's know it's on it's way

That won't spoil their Christmas IMO but have a few nicky naks for them to open ....Santa can transport the light things on Christmas eve Xmas Smile just not a thousand heavy computers
