To be worried about DS

DS is 7.5 months and has been puking on and off since Saturday. Also had diarriah, but this has slowed down to one or two runny poos a day, which is in line with his regular movements (sorry if TMI!).

He's off nearly all food. Puking after any solid 'meal' but keeping down small amounts of milk and water. I've been letting him have snacks at meal times instead - spelt bicuits and bread. But he's having a couple of bites and then giving up.

He's cut two top teeth and looks like he has a third coming through as his cheek is still v.red.

Unsurprisingly, he's losing weight. I haven't had him weighed, but his clothes are really baggy and I can feel bones where there's usually a good layer of chub! I can also tell just looking at him and holding him.

I took him to GP on Tuesday as I was worried - he's not a pukey baby I might add, so this is really out of character! GP made me feel like a neurotic first mother " you seem more worried about this than him". No temperature and although clingy and whingy, OK.

WWYD - do I take him back if he carries on puking? Or do I just wait and see...but for how long? Am I being too precious??

The GP was trying to put you at ease I would say.

I would make sure he isnt dehydrated and keep on getting as much liquid as you can into him.

Teething probably is the underlying reason, and those powders (cant remember the name, but all chemists sell them) are very effective.

Thanks squeaky.

How long do I wait before taking him back? Or don't I? Really don't want to be 'one of those mothers'. But at the same time, want to do what's right for DS.

It sounds as if he's improving which is a good sign. Does he eat any fruit? When ds was younger and ill he'd often eat the Ella's kitchen apple and bananna pouches which taste quite sweet but are easy on an upset tummy. If he has eaten bananna before I'd try mashing some of that-it's pretty good at firming them up.

Just to add, whence you are worried overnight you can always call nhs direct-they're open 24hrs

I would take him back just to be on the safe side - puking since Saturday is not good and probably warrants further investigation. Do you have a walk in centre rather than your normal GPs?

Replacing a bottle with some dioralyte will put the lost salts back into his system and I think stops the symptoms - can't remember exactly but they were very good when my DS had this for about 4 weeks at around 8 months. The dr recommended it. They're suitable for babies and can be bought over the counter.

Thank you, thank you. Weight loss in my big bruiser is obviously quite worrying!!

He ate a banana yesyerday, so I think I will get him some pouchy things tomorrow, Bedlam.

Tiger I think I will give him some dioralyte tomorrow. He's drinking water v.well, but just isn't getting any better, really.

Magrathea I am going to see how he is tomorrow and then decide. Our docs is THE walk-in place, so it's massive and always hit and miss who you see.

Thanks again all.
