the school my children attend has a new head started in september.he drives me MAD with the way he treats us parents as utter idiots.prime example has been the xmas party-all food has to be in original wrappings from shops complete with ingredient lists and best before dates.as a mother of a child with epi pens i feel this is sooo over the top as even the pizzas have to be sent in unopened to be cooked on the premises.gone are the days when mums could bring in a jelly or make fun cakes/biscuits and we drown in a sea of shop bought beigeness.what happened to common sense?

DDs school has a policy that each child takes their own plate of party food, labeled with their name. It works well, there are two children that I know of in her class who have very specific dietary needs (not allergies) and the school are very good at accommodating those.

I'm surprised your surprised at this policy, or that the head previous to the head had adiffereetn policy. It has been standeard here for atleast 15 years. You cannot give home made food to a stranger, legally,( that is give, not even sell) without having been awarded the appropriate foodhygeine certificates, without the threat of criminal charges if they complain. ( criminal, I beleive, not civil - could be wrong about that, it is a long time since I last did a food hanfling course)

It seems quite reasonable to me. At the last event at my work where service users were invited my manager insisted that all food was brought in from outside either in wrappings or produced by verified outside caterers. We used to bring in home made stuff but the risk assessments/company policy no longer allow us to do that.
