AIBU to dislike this Facebook "like" option for threads on MN?

Because why on earth would I want to broadcast anything I post on her to that Den of Vipers?

I am entirely sick of the way that Facebitch appears to have crept into every sodding unrelated corner of the internet and I really didn't think that MN would stoop this low!

I agree Laura.

I can't quite believe MNHQ knew the general views of their users, and just went and totally disregarded them anyway.

It sucks.

noddyholder · 15/12/2011 17:22

Very bad idea imvho

supadupaturkeystupour · 15/12/2011 17:23

but you are no less anonymous???? a google search takes you to MN. I can link any thread to FB easily. It is all public. Did you all think that only MNers can read these threads? You are wrong. The button just makes it easier to post the link.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/12/2011 17:25

Davey - sorry to see you go :( Sadly you wont be the only one either. Lots & lots of regular (and new) posters didn't want it, but no one is listening. Apparently the few who do want it should be allowed it and the rest of us can choose to ignore it Hmm It is yet another thing which is making MN less enjoyable for me (as much the fact it was voted against yet still introduced as the bloody button itself). What was the other thing that happend this week?

JamieComeHome · 15/12/2011 17:31

Do I not like this

I'll repeat what I said on the other topic, supaturkey - where you also attempted to justify the wretched thing on the spurious "I can link any thread to FB easily premise".

We know you can copy and paste a link. But it is much more of a process than simply clicking a button. Worse, this easy to use option takes the debate straight onto Facebook. A place which is mistrusted and despised by a growing number of internet users and for very good reasons.

Its not about the public accessibility issue though supa, its the fact that its being made easier, nay, being actively encouraged for two worlds to collide which most of us prefer to remain distinctly separate...

CarolCervix · 15/12/2011 17:36

seriously considering deregistering. cannot have real and MN life clashing. I am very sad about it.

EdithWeston · 15/12/2011 17:38

YANBU

There is no reason whatsoever to make it easier to post things to a totally unrelated site. Very bad idea.

badmammajamma · 15/12/2011 17:44

OMG I just posted something I really don't want linked to my RL persona. Does it come up on your fb profile or something? Panicking!

usualsuspect · 15/12/2011 17:46

Did you press the like button and tell fb your MN user name?

TheOriginalFAB · 15/12/2011 17:46

I have just had to report a thread of mine and ask for it to be deleted as I can't have it being seen by rl people.

badmammajamma · 15/12/2011 17:47

No. So it's not automatic then? Phew.

ViviPrudolf · 15/12/2011 17:48

Someone on the other thread just brought up the fact that you could possibly click it by accident IMAGINE?! Just all sorts of freaking out at the thought of that...

Soo...err.. what happens when you do click it? (suddenly the 'like' takes on the appearance of a massive juicy red button with a 'do no touch this button' label)

BlissfulMistletoe · 15/12/2011 17:49

do not like this at all MN sort it out

Esta3GG · 15/12/2011 17:50

I was looking for a reason to stop posting here and wasting so much time.
Just found it.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

badmammajamma · 15/12/2011 17:51

FAB. I might do that. I was just psyching myself up to sharing something that is eating me up and causing me a lot of suffering. No way that I'll chance it now. This is a bad move MN.

BrianAndHisBalls · 15/12/2011 17:52

But, and I asked this on the other thread too, even if you do 'like' a thread, no one will know your MN name will they? So why will it not be anonymous Confused

Pandemoniaa · 15/12/2011 17:52

You cannot link two sites that function at quite opposite ends of the Anonymity Spectrum.

Facebook would not work without the use of real names. MN would not work with the use of real names. To combine the two is wildly inappropriate.

Maryz - why nc though? I dont understand how the like button will out your RL name??

CarolCervix · 15/12/2011 17:58

It is not ME clicking a 'like' on a thread I have started or posted on that I am concerned about. It is other people, who may knowpele I know, who ay read what I said on MN, work out who I am and identify me.

If I delete my FB profile it doesn't help as other people will still be able to link things I have written.

PissedOffAboutTheLikeButton · 15/12/2011 17:59

So, why have MN done this?

usualsuspect · 15/12/2011 18:00

But you could always link threads on fb
