to be annoyed that the neighbours have got a new 10 week old puppy

None of by business I hear you say BUT they have only had it a week and they are all out at work,so from the hours of 11 - 2 ish he is all alone and just yaps repeatedly.

I would not mind so much as he is still small so the yap is quietish but still audible and it keeps setting my dog off who really has got the loudest bark on the planet,I can see neighbours complaining about my dog being a noise nuisance

so would I be being unreasonable to go and say excuse me but...........

I know for a fact that another neighbour is getting really annoyed by it but they took the pup round to her front door to introduce him possibly in the hope she might goo all over him

AIBU to feel really cross (sorry huge headache caused by me virtually yelling at my dog to shut the f**k up)

YABU.....out of interest though what would you say..."scuse me but???"

Your neighbours are entitled to get a puppy if they want one. You just need to control your own dog and stop worrying about theirs!

pinkbraces · 15/12/2011 12:55

Why not train your dog not to bark

squeakytoy · 15/12/2011 12:56

It is a puppy... he will grow out of it hopefully. 11-2 is not unreasonable for leaving him alone.

Your dog is an adult though, so should know better. Wink

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 15/12/2011 12:56

Any chance you could take him out for a little walk whilst they're out? Might help. Smile

DoMeDon · 15/12/2011 12:56

Is that 11am to 2pm?

YABU. Teach your dog not to bark!?! Screaming STFU at a dog doesn't work.

VirgoGrr · 15/12/2011 12:57

What would you like them to do to resolve your problem?
Get rid of the puppy? Take it to work? Take time off work until puppy is 6 months?

YABU. Have some patience. Puppies do not stay puppies, it will grow up and hopefully not into a dog that barks. Try giving some advice about toys to keep pup occupied.

DoMeDon · 15/12/2011 12:57

Classic projection too - you are annoyed they don't stop their dog barking when you can't control your own Hmm

DoesNotGiveAFig · 15/12/2011 12:58

I'd agree that you should be training your own dog. They've done nowt wrong.

JingleChelles · 15/12/2011 12:58

YABU - you need to train your dog not to bark.

Esta3GG · 15/12/2011 12:58

You are blaming the puppy nextdoor for your dog's barking.
Poor pup - it is obviously not coping well with being left alone.
And to make matters worse there is a big scary dof next door with a massive bark - just to terrify him a bit more.

Esta3GG · 15/12/2011 12:59

dog

wannaBe · 15/12/2011 13:00

yabu.

DeckTheHallsWithPopcornMice · 15/12/2011 13:05

:o domedon

YABVVVVU

springydaffs · 15/12/2011 13:07

aww how can you not resist offering to have the puppy during those hours?

BsshBossh · 15/12/2011 13:09

Just 11-2? YABU.

worzelswife · 15/12/2011 13:09

If it was me, that's what I'd do too. Have their puppy over for a bit. Have lots of cuddles and then give it back. Problem solved.

TheTinselsTheWrongColour · 15/12/2011 14:37

Thanks,I think that's what I needed, someone to tell me I am being unreasonable

sleep deprivation is turning me into a victor meldrew this week so am crotchety at everything and can't see the wood for the trees

Domedon I know shouting does not work,it just came out due to above

and I have been training our dog for the year we have had her since we rescued her,she now trusts me,well she did until I shouted at her :(

I will try and gain some patience back and attempt to get some sleep before I decide that all else is wrong with the world and become a super grumpy old bag that everyone whispers about

Why can you have a dog but they cant? Especially seeing as your dog is causing the agro

hypocritical much

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/12/2011 15:12

When our dog was only 10 weeks old, I wouldn't have dreamt of leaving her in the house alone for 3 hours - that is a very long time for a puppy that age to be left alone. It's hardly surprising that the puppy gets upset/barks during that time.

Presumeably the couple need to go out to work, and I do understand that - but maybe whilst the puppy is little they need to hire a dog walker to come in and take the puppy out for a play during that time.

It would also be good if you could teach your dog not to bark, TheTinsels - but that will take time with a rescue dog, and won't be made easier by a puppy barking all the time next door.

TheBreadstick · 15/12/2011 15:19

Aw - I do feel you OP, but you are being a teeny bit unreasonable!

Our neighbours have a huge dog and now a small puppy and when they're out the dogs set each other off and it goes on for ages, so I do feel for you! (We don't have a dog, but I'm 5 months pregnant so come next April maybe I'll be getting my own back with a crying baby?! Smile

Anyway, rather than let the situation get me down/angry I called round at the neighbours and offered to take the dogs out on the days I'm home and they're out and just explained as I heard them barking during the day I didn't want the dogs to be distressed whilst owners were out.

Neighbour seemed really touched that I'd been so thoughtful and although she's said she doesn't want to trouble me with walking duties, she now shuts the dogs in a different part of the house when they're away and has checked since then if the noise has been a disturbance - which it hasn't!

To be fair to your neighbours - if you don't mention it, how are they supposed to know their dogs barking!

Train your dog!

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 15/12/2011 17:03

it's a puppy.

try to think of it as a baby Grin babies cry. puppies yap. I am sure it will grow out if it, if the owners train it.

Perhaps you could offer to show them where they can learn about puppy training?
