Just bit me. Am I going to die of rabies or something?

Not a friendly playful bite, a full on, savage, gushing blood bite.

Ha - rabies ... probably not !

But you have my sympathy. One of mine is a real biter ... not only does he draw blood, but his jaws are so strong, you also get bruised round the bite too. I haven't died yet though and when he's not being a grump, he's very affectionate.

Kladdkaka · 15/12/2011 11:05

She was being all affectionate, rubbing up against me and getting me to stroke her. Then all of a sudden she stopped, dropped, rolled, grabbed my hand in her claws and sunk her teeth..

It's bruising up already.

Have you had a tetanus jab in the last 10 years?
If not it might be a good idea to get one.

BiancaStroud · 15/12/2011 11:47

When I last worked in the NHS in 2006, standard practice was to prescribe antibiotics for all cat and dog bites where the skin had been punctured.

YusMilady · 15/12/2011 11:51

Please don't be cross with your cat - she was trying to tell you something in the only way she knows how! My cat can turn 'bitey' if he's had enough of being stroked and petted. So can I!

I'm going to get my daughter to ring the health service when she gets in from school. I daren't risk my Swedish. Last time I tried to make an appointment for a lump under my arm I apparantly told them that I needed to see a doctor because I had a fat head. Blush (It sounded right to me)

Did you touch a sore spot? My cat did this once and when I looked he had a horrible puncture wound where he had obviously been in a fight.

I am also sorry for you as well of course Xmas Blush

OrmIrian · 15/12/2011 11:54

My cat does that sometimes but I think it's just because she's a mardy queen.

Unless your cat is ill or in pain?

Kladdkaka · 15/12/2011 11:56

She's fine. She doesn't go out. She just has feral moments.

OP posts:
Redrubyblues · 15/12/2011 12:00

In that case then she is just a bastard. Xmas Grin

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 15/12/2011 12:04

I reckon you'll need antibiotics. I had to take some strong AB's after a dog bite that punctured the skin.

IggyPup · 15/12/2011 12:06

She was playing with you and now probably feels confused why you don't want to play the bitey game with her.

DeckTheHallsWithPopcornMice · 15/12/2011 13:00

If it looks even the slightest bit inflamed, go and see your GP and get some antibiotics; cat bites can be nasty. DH had one that got infected and he almost ended up in A&E on IV antibiotics Confused

Rhubarbgarden · 15/12/2011 13:10

It'll be fine. Just bung some germolene on it. [currently sporting a deep cat claw gash across my boob that slices the areola and ends in the nipple]
