Dh borrowed my car on Tuesday so I could sort out service for his car. On Wednesday I had to use car to make some deliveries. I got in the car and the petrol warning light came on almost immediately.
Was it inconsiderate not to at least replace what he used?
Not a financial issue as it all comes out of same pot.

Perhaps he didn't have time?

fuzzypeach1750 · 15/12/2011 09:57

Yes he should have refilled! My DH does this and oh my goodness does it get my goat Grin

aldiwhore · 15/12/2011 09:58

Probably your DH should have, but I don't usually even glance at my petrol gauge until the light pings on so maybe he just didn't notice it was so low?

If he's filled your car up in the past for no reason, then I think YABU. If he leaves your car empty every time YANBU.

Taken as an out of usual context post, shrug!

squeakytoy · 15/12/2011 09:59

If the light came on "almost" immediately, then it didnt come on while your husband was driving it. So he might not have noticed it. Did he do a long journey or just a short trip?

If there is never any argument over who pays for the fuel, I wouldnt worry about it. My husband never puts diesel in my car when he uses it.

york80 · 15/12/2011 10:00

Never been in this position before. Although he was aware it was runnig low as I had told him.

It was about a 90 mile trip.

Blimey, does it matter? I mean, annoying if he does it every time, but as a one off...

Did he do a lot of mileage, york? As unless he did, presumably you knew the petrol level was fairly low when you lent it to him...

Goolash · 15/12/2011 10:02

Yanbu if the warning light comes on they you fill it up. If you don't, for whatever reason, then you should warn the other person.

It's happened to me before, running late for school, get into car, warning light comes on. Ask dp how long it's been on for and find he's done a 10 mile journey with it on!

pinkyp · 15/12/2011 10:03

Yabu, the light might of just come on (always happens to me)

slavetofilofax · 15/12/2011 10:03

This wouldn't bother me. I would rather do it myself than expect him to do it in the middle of a 90 mile trip, unless I was going to need to do a long journey first thing the next day.

JinglePosyPerkin · 15/12/2011 10:06

Is this the worst thing that's happened to you today? Hmm If so, where can I get a life like yours?

samandi · 15/12/2011 10:36

Yes, if he went on a long trip he should have replaced it. Especially considering that you were sorting out the service on his car.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 15/12/2011 10:42

DH does this to me all the time. I keep it nicely topped up and he leaves it with the light flashing madly so I have to chug along to the garage praying for no red lights!

Unfortunately I haven't the nerve to do it to him. I'm still recovering from the trauma of my dad breaking down on the big Hammersmith roundabout because he ignored all the warning lights in 1982.
