Why is there not a link on chat about babies being ill? My dd "only" has a v bad tummy upset / diarrhoea. It's keeping me up all night and I'm worried about the anti-biotics she's been prescribed. Can't get her to drink the dhiarolyte doc said I must. Or water. Or anything. Tips?

ice lolly pops normally work for my children, failing that syringe feed them fluids.

mix the diralyte with very very weak dilute if shes abit oldr, know its not ideal but better than nothing.

Is this the sort of link/forum you are looking for?

I hope your DD feels better soon and you both manage to get a little sleep.

Is she's not managing to keep any fluids down then you need to call NHS direct. Little bits and often is better then a large drink.

belledechocchipcookie · 15/12/2011 00:42

Dehydration: no urine in 6 hours (if a baby), 12 hours otherwise, sunken eyes, dry lips and tongue. You really should give NHS direct a call though.

Saw doctor ar 5pm - slight dehydration after 4.5 days of bad nappies... She's still v cheerful most of the time - just won't have water or dhiarolyte. No idea about urine (as I told dr) as always fluid poo filled...

No, fontanelles and temp and behaviour (s**t other than the fact she's up again - v out of character) - all fine. Just so wishing she'd take fluids. Does formula milk count?

She has been v sick - just after we got back from doctor. Also she just moaned and whilst I'd normally leave that low level, went to check and whilst she wants to go back to sleep her hair is all sticky.

Have you got a medicine syringe? That is a good way of getting fluids in her.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 15/12/2011 01:43

rubyrubyruby thank you! Have (phew!) been doing exactly what that link suggested. It's (according to doctor) a bacterial infection rather than gasteroenteritious- hence anti-biotics. twofalls thank you - syringe (re-used from baby Neurophen via being washed and sterilised) is only way I can get water into her - although man in flat upstairs will prob ring social services after the howls it creates! Back to original question - why isn't there a section on here for health? My psuedonym is from finding out I was pregnant, not being a permanent neurotic. First time back in 9 months and v grateful for advice. Xxx

Oops blissful that would be me looking under "being a parent" rather than "health". Oh well, she's up again so hasta luego.... (otherwise known as please can she have some fluids and I'll be back or hopefully asleep v soon!)
