I do mean a nintendo DS not a DS! Though getting the real DS after the bedrest was nice too of course. Yes.

witherhills · 15/12/2011 00:21

It's for the best, don't worry
Always bloody wanted an eternity ring though!

felicitywits · 15/12/2011 00:27

wither, well done for leaving him. Get yourself an eternity ring :)

PeppaPigandGeorge · 15/12/2011 00:28

Or a DS.....

SarahSlaughter · 15/12/2011 00:29

Wither well that's good then. Why not save up for one as a present for yourself to celebrate your new start in life?

SarahSlaughter · 15/12/2011 00:30

Great minds Felicity!

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 15/12/2011 01:12

Anyone I know who has one got it because they married very young and hadn't a bean. So years later, on a significant anniversary, having Made Good, they got a fecking huge blinging eternity ring as a way to say "wahey, look how far we've come!".

And more power to 'em.

They are all Americans mind. It might be different there. Everyone I know who has one is American.

DH brought me a bacon sarnie (with mayo, he remembered), some haribo and more ribena. God I love that man.

Sorry to hear that Withers, I've seen your previous threads and it did sound like maybe you will be better off...I'm sure it sucks now though.

I had a lovely necklace and brooch set when my first was born and another set of necklace and earrings when number 2 was born. I received a diamond probably zircon ring from my ex at 10 years marriage.

I've told this story before, but my dad gave my mum hers after she survived a 7 hour open heart operation having been given a less than 5% chance of doing so. Just six months after I was born he was staring single fatherhood in the face, in the mid 1970's. She made it though and he gave her a lovely little full-round ring. Only a £50 jobbie from the local jeweller but it meant everything to them, and did to me too.

MabelLucyAttwell · 15/12/2011 08:08

PeppaPigandGeorge

"Bugger the ring, the least I deserved after childbirth was a cleaner, however I am still doing my own hoovering......."

I don't hoover. I like vaxing.

EmmaBemma · 15/12/2011 08:09

They're not traditional! They were invented by jewellery makers so they can flog more bling.

EmmaBemma · 15/12/2011 08:11

oh jeez, I should really read the whole thread before posting, now I look like a right mean-spirited miser after sparkle's lovely post.

Bunbaker · 15/12/2011 08:13

Rings don't do it for me. The only ring I wear is my wedding ring. When OH Proposed to me I said yes, but don't bother with an engagement ring, I want a new cooker instead.

I didn't get a present for having DD, apart from a bunch of lovely flowers. I didn't know it was the done thing and therefore didn't expect a present. What I did get was lots of help and support from OH which was worth far more than a piece of jewellery (to me anyway).

sparkle12mar08 · 15/12/2011 08:17

Don't be daft EmmaBemma! It was a unique set of circumstance that's all. And my dad was a bit of a magpie tbh, so it wouldn't surprise me if the gift eventually chosen was inspired by some advertising :)

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 15/12/2011 08:38

I haven't got one but I want one. My engagement/wedding rings don't fit me any more so I'd like a nice sparkly band to wear instead.

And I might even get it from Argos. So fucking what. The snobbery over this sort of thing makes me sick.

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 15/12/2011 08:54

Thing is after our twins are born we are going to be seriously skint. So no money to downs on rings really

DoesNotGiveAFig · 15/12/2011 09:19

I want one. Because I love jewellery and I'm a complete magpie. Xmas Blush

Hassledge · 15/12/2011 09:26

Another fickle magpie here - I want one.

Except that it would have to be an engagement ring on account of the engagement ring I have actually being an eternity ring; DH didn't realise there was a difference in style. I was too polite to say anything - DD unfortunately wasn't :o.
