to print address labels for Christmas cards

Is that acceptable?

Obviously I'll write nice things in the cards, but the thought of writing the envelopes too is depressing me.

Oh for crying in a bucket of blood. Next you'll be asking which end of the bed you should get into.

Is this really really such a contentious matter?

fluffytowels · 14/12/2011 22:25

I admit there are more pressing matters in the world.

I always print labels.

This year I managed to get all my international cards 1g over the threshold for very very expensive postage and the man in the Post Office suggested my labels may have been the deciding factor. He did admit that he was just jealous because he wouldn't know how to go about printing labels. Grin

troisgarcons · 14/12/2011 22:34

Dear God and all that is worrying in the world - and this is the major problem or angst in your life?

Pandemoniaa · 14/12/2011 23:40

Just make sure that all the letters in the names are of identical proportions. Or we'll have another "Shall I ritually burn this Christmas card?" thread to endure.

CaurnieBred · 14/12/2011 23:51

Only if they are set up in an Access database, filtered for categories (eg, his list, my list, joint list) and then linked to a Word mailmerge document. Or is that just me . . .?

BlissfulMistletoe · 15/12/2011 00:07

i don't do cards, instead i donate the money i would of spent on cards to a charity i fancy.

this year it is AA.

sausagesandmarmelade · 15/12/2011 08:04

Why not.....

We had a card with a label on the envelope. It's nice and neat...and useful if your handwriting is not so good.

MabelLucyAttwell · 15/12/2011 08:17

I used to handwrite my envelopes but, as time went on, I began to spend days writing them. Now I use mail merged labels and (1) the royal Mail staff and computers can read them and (2) it's all done is less than 30 mins. The big point is that I have so many (150) to do, relations and friends. There are no acquanitances except perhaps a few acknowledgements for something they have helped me with during the year.

I could not go back to handwriting envelopes now unless it's a one off letter once a week or more seldom.

aldiwhore · 15/12/2011 08:22

I think if anyone judged anyone for printing a label then they'd be a knobber frankly.

startail · 15/12/2011 11:07

I'm dyslexic, if I don't print labels the auto sorting machine is liable to commit suicide at the sight of my writing!

ExitPursuedBySanta · 15/12/2011 11:09

Christmas would be unbearable without my printed labels. I do add a lovely coloured festive embellishment to mine though. Xmas Wink

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 15/12/2011 11:12

I switched to printing my labels about three years ago. What a blessed relief.

Now if there was only a way of printing the stuff I write inside the cards, that would be fabulous Xmas Grin

squeakytoy · 15/12/2011 11:14

So long as you pass the MN etiquette of making sure you get every initial and surname right, you will be fine Grin

A Random Platitude Generator - next Xmas must have :)

Bathsheba · 15/12/2011 11:23

I do this every year - I have appalling hand writing...

ConOfScience · 15/12/2011 11:23

Envelopes go in the bin immediately, who is going to care about the label?

Tut tut... have you missed the threads on here... we have people about to cut off their nearest and dearest due to a simple grammatical error on the envelope.. Grin

wannaBe · 15/12/2011 12:56

I have a dimo label maker for this exact purpose. And not only do I print the labels for the envelopes but I write labels for the inside of the cards as well. Grin

DoesNotGiveAFig · 15/12/2011 12:56

MABEL Congratulations on your large number of friends Grin

boschy · 15/12/2011 13:05

oooooo, well acksherly it is considered very non-U to print your labels!

I handwrite mine obviously, because I am a technofuckwit and cannot do the label thing on the pc. otherwise I'd print the bastards.

but yes, loving mabel's friend count!

on another naff note - we had a card from very good friends today in which was PRINTED "Happy Christmas from the XXXXXs". They had written in Dear Boschy etc tho. I still think it is naff.

PicaK · 15/12/2011 13:10

The address is purely for the benefit of the PO. It's what's written in the card that counts surely?

But this is why I scowl at the cards where they don't bother to write my name and just have "from X and Y".

ConOfScience · 15/12/2011 14:31

squeaky I must've missed those threads while I was bothering about something worthwhile Grin

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/12/2011 14:46

I wish I could print labels...would be great

YABU for not posting a step by step idiot proof guide on how to do it opXmas Grin

I only send about 6 cards but that's 6 too much hassle in my opinion
