To think a large glass of wine a night (sometimes two) isn't too much?

Clearly by government guidelines it is too much. I usually get through 3 bottles of 11% cava per week. I don't get drunk, don't binge & always feel fine the next day but am worried I'm diung myself harm. I love the buzz I get from a large glass while cooking dinner, aibu?

anneatkins - no I realise that, I am not being sarcastic, I do actually think that may be what is making me drink more! I am going to try a pint of lime soda or something prior to a glass of wine, and if I still feel like it I'll have a small one

I probably drink half a bottle of wine each night, although if I'm going out and can't drink cos I'm driving, then it doesn't bother me. I don't like the feeling of getting drunk, so I'm not drinking for the kick of feeling a bit squiffy - I just like the taste of wine. I've started to think that I'm drinking too much,so will watch this thread with interest

rainbow, I drink almost excatly the same as you.
I enjoy it, rarely drink so that I have a hangover and don't feel any better if I dont drink for a week or so.

I personally think it is too much and sometimes worry that I am getting a bit dependent, that it will cause longterm damage and that should something really shit happen in my life it will get out of hand.

what is important for me has been to drink wine and soda and to make sure I have two days of not drinking a week.

sorry pressed too soon. In all honesty we drink too much.

I used to drink quite a bit when I was younger. I gave up all alcohol for January one year as a New Year's resolution. It was an interesting journey of discovery. I was OK with it but some of my friends found it hard I wouldn't give in and join them for a drink and I was surprised at just how many times I was around alcohol in my normal life and hadn't thought about it. I definitely drank less after my month off and was able to notice the effects much more. I would really recommend it for anyone concerned they may be drinking too much or becoming dependent. It taught me I wasn't dependent but I was drinking too much and not thinking about it.

I'd say it's your prerogative. I used to drink some weeknights but don't tend to now. Mainly because a) I'm now an alcohol softie and get tipsy fast and b) I don't tend to relax on the sofa more than twice a week! Oh and c) money isn't that flowing.

VickityBoo · 14/12/2011 20:45

Oh and d) I'm losing weight and like to run and alcohol doesn't help that and e) hangovers and small children!

I don't think it's that much! I think it's just a habit that's quite easy to get into. I found myself doing this too at one point but have cut down to only having a drink at the weekends now and feel better for it (as does my waistline and my purse!)
