I know it is part of a court caseit is here
but why do they need to actually say it in the news?

OP posts:
KittyFane · 13/12/2011 22:22

It exposes them as the vile creatures they are.

thepeoplesprincess · 13/12/2011 22:23

What's the point in reporting the news if they're not actually going to report it? I see far far far worse in the papers than a few rude words tbh.

deepandcrispandsevenfold · 13/12/2011 22:24

it is beyond rude words though, did you hear it? it was beyond vile.

OP posts:
Crosshair · 13/12/2011 22:24

I think its important to hear and see bad things as they really are.

squeakytoy · 13/12/2011 22:24

YABU because it needs to be in the news, it needs to be heard so that people know what sort of scum they are..

KittyFane · 13/12/2011 22:25

Yes and the men said what was reported. They deserve to be exposed.

chocolatespiders · 13/12/2011 22:26

I see it as relevant to the case so will be reported... Havent haerd the news reports did they actually say it all out loud?

deepandcrispandsevenfold · 13/12/2011 22:27

OK IABU
I think I was just shocked so much by what they said, and most likely did

OP posts:
EdithWeston · 13/12/2011 22:28

I don't think they should have read it out on the pre-watershed news.

headfairy · 13/12/2011 22:30

You can't sanitise the news. Most of the time it's pretty ugly but you can't dress it up as something it ain't.

thepeoplesprincess · 13/12/2011 22:30

I'm not in the slightest bit shocked by what they said tbh. I kinda assume that someone who is so xenophobic to the point of stabbing someone to death for having a different skin colour isn't going to b;e known for using phrases such as 'ethnic minority' or 'persons of Afro-Carribbean heritage'.;

KittyFane · 13/12/2011 22:31

deep I was also shocked because these people are as low as you can get. I'm glad that what they have said has been reported word for word. They said it and everyone should know what scum they are. These people can't hide anymore.

Cherriesarelovely · 13/12/2011 22:31

Wasn't it vile?! Absolutely shocking I agree. I think that they deserved to be exposed for the vile racists that they so clearly are though.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleepAtXmas · 13/12/2011 22:31

The news isn't child-friendly, though, is it?

That's why I don't watch it in front of the DCs.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleepAtXmas · 13/12/2011 22:33

I remember reading all this when the first court case was on. It's amazing these 'people' got away scot-free. Stephen's parents are so so strong.

deepandcrispandsevenfold · 13/12/2011 22:33

oh I wasn't worried about children hearing it, tbh I think I was just so shocked to realise that there are people like that.
I hope they don't get off

OP posts:
KittyFane · 13/12/2011 22:33

I don't watch the news with DD 8 - she sees newsround for watered down version.

FreudianSlipper · 13/12/2011 22:34

because the news should report the truth and this is the truth

this is nothing new i remember seeing the vidoe before on the news years ago. it is beleived the only reason they got off before is because one of their fathers is a drug dealer that had too many friends who were police lets just hope they do not this time becasue so much evidence is pointing towards them being guilty

KittyFane · 13/12/2011 22:35

They 'got away with it' first time round... I'm not convinced that there will be a conviction now but I may be proved wrong. It's a minefield.

AmberLeaf · 13/12/2011 22:37

I heard it years ago and saw the film of them saying it.

I agree with Freudianslipper re one of thems dodgy dad and his police mates.

TroublesomeEx · 13/12/2011 22:38

It didn't make for comfortable viewing, no. But then Stephen Lawrence's parents deserve to know that the truth hasn't been watered down to preserve our sensibilities. Although I cannot imagine what it would be like for them listening to it. Sad

These men are vile. Their thoughts are vile. Their words are vile. And, if (when) found guilty, their actions are also vile.

They deserve to be exposed for the scum they are.

I hope Stephen's parents get the justice they have been denied for so long.

EdithWeston · 13/12/2011 22:42

I don't think language like that has been read out before on the 6 O'Clock and the 6:30 ITV News. These are both broadcasts that go out when children are at large.

It's not only about what is suitable for adults, it's about what goes out pre-watershed. We had the same issue with footage of the lynching of Gadaffi. it should have had a warning notice and more careful editing for the early broadcasts, and probably not have been read out loud either. The fuller version should have been on the 10:00 News only.

If we are to have a watershed, it must be respected.

troisgarcons · 13/12/2011 22:51

Some of us grew up with that case. And some of us know what that 5 (even tho only of them are in court) are like. Some of us know the families by repute. Some of us want to see them be nailed this time. And as pointed out - you cant edit the news for the sensibilities of the viewers - news is just that - news.

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 13/12/2011 22:54

The news I saw used bleeps and asterisks anyway. As does the report you link to.

xyfactor · 14/12/2011 00:19

What was vile is the way the police managed to get away with not conducting a thorough investigation and then getting away with being called into account years later.
The Lawrence family need closure for their lad and to get that they need everything warts and all. Our sensibilities just don't matter.
