I am married with 3 dc's (youngest is 3mths) and have the washing machine on twice a day (plus bedding).

No matter what I do I always seem to have a HUGE ironing pile that never get's smaller so I looked online, found a company and they have just came and collected 50items of our clothing Blush

I told my MIL and she asked what exactly did I need that for and surely her son wouldnt want to 'waste' his money on that! Frstly, I earn money and all money is ours... but aibu to want to spend time with my baby and going to dc's festive concerts etc than trying to tackle the mountain of ironing?

Whatever your reason OhTheConfusion if you have the money to pay someone to do a job you hate, or a job that no matter how to try you just can't get into an efficient routine with it, then YANBU to get it done by someone else.

There was NEVER any stray washing/ironing in our house growing up, my mother was obsessive and LOVED everything to always be put away, I think it made her teeth itch to see actually wearing clothes! I am not my mother, and try as I might I just never seem to be able to get everything put away. I'm in a managable routine now, because I don't bloody iron!

YANBU. If it will take away one frustration of your day to day life, its money well spent.

It's a totally personal decision but I have no idea what part of being a stay at home parent means you have to do drudgery. If you can afford it, I would offload as much as possible on to staff, with the exception of the childcare itself. That gives you time for your children and a little time for you.

We have a cleaner twice a week for 9 hours in total, including ironing. And it still does not feel like enough!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 14/12/2011 09:34

We get DH's shirts laundered and ironed, and everything else I employ the 'vigorous shake and fold' method. Occasionally I iron a few things, but probably less than once a fortnight.
And I'm a SAHM, and I have a cleaner.

YANBU. But YABU to discuss it with your MIL. Least said the better I have come to realise about outsourcing domestic work. My Mum I can discuss it with because she always had a cleaner and paid for some ironing to be done even though she was a SAHM. I don't mention it to MIL or SIL, or friends unless I know that they also outsource.

I am on maternity leave too. Our cleaner still comes twice a week.

I am on ML to care for our new baby, not wait on my husband.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 14/12/2011 21:59

my ironing lady came this afternoon, all shirts etc nicely ironed and on hangers ready to be hung in wardrobes. Perfect. I paid the lady and organised for her to come next week again. Xmas Grin

But... I have just discovered my dry cleaners do shirts - laundered, dried and ironed 5 shirts for £7.50. bargaintastic for me. It also means that I will have less laundry to do too. Win win all round.

OhTheConfusion · 15/12/2011 08:55

Well the lovely ironing lady returned last night with all our crumpled clothes freshly ironed. I look forward to next weeks visit!

YABVVVU to tell your MIL! Grin What on earth did you expect?!

SanTEEClaus · 15/12/2011 09:41

YABU because it continues the oppressive idea that ironing is necessary. Xmas Grin

I think I'll suggest a MN campaign to make ironing illegal. No one ever died from an unironed shirt. FACT

slavetofilofax · 15/12/2011 09:47

YANBU, I have been sending my ironing out for years. I like to think that I am not being lazy, I an just contributing to the economy.

OhTheConfusion · 16/12/2011 11:16

Loving Slave's 'contributing to the economy' theory... I must use that one myself!

MIL only found out because she was on a visit when the woman came to collect it!
