Saw his interview with Andrew Marr on the beeb this morning, he looks well but is definitely getting older Xmas Sad, in the photo's of him in the Times last week he looked even older.

So morbid to think about this, I know, but nature programs will not be the same without him, I feel like I grew up with his voice, have been thinking about this all day. Can't think of anybody that could take his place or command the respect he does.

Xmas Sad

Yanbu, I absolutely love him. His autobiography 'life on air' is just jaw dropping, he's done more astonishing things in a week than I'll do in a lifetime and he seems so lovely and modest too. I think the same as you every time I hear him speak, I just want him to stick around

Comes from a lovely family too. His parents adopted two refugee girls from Europe during the war.

He is an absolutely amazing person, and definitely YANBU. I wish he could live forever, too. He has been part of my life since I was born and I owe my love of nature and science to him. One of my life wishes is to share a meal or a conversation with him.

GiserableMitt · 12/12/2011 02:10

Definitely NBU, I feel the same way.

Hardgoing · 12/12/2011 02:12

Ahhh, I know what you mean, he is aging and he's such a vital and exciting person, it is difficult to face evidence he (along with the rest of us) may not be around for ever. He seems to me typical of his very stoic and hardy generation, but with lots of compassion as well. I thought I had seen it all with nature films, but I have just loved 'The Frozen Planet' which is just jaw-dropping.

YANBU. I feel the same way too. He is a living treasure.

thelittlestkiwi · 12/12/2011 04:25

He is a national treasure. In fact, that doesn't do him justice really.

I get very annoyed that the Americans insist on dubbing all his programmes.

Methe · 12/12/2011 04:34

Do they? Why? That is a bloody scandal.

Op I agree with you.

Taranta · 12/12/2011 05:46

I've been lucky enough to meet him a couple of times, and he's friendly, warm and very witty. As you'd expect but so nice when your heroes turn out to be as wonderful as you want them to be!
