to expect to stay in a hotel without being exposed to Cannabis smoke?

Dh, 3 young dds and I stayed at an Express by Holiday Inn last Friday night. Towards the end of the evening I started to smell smoke - we checked all of the appliances in the room as it was strong but couldn't find a source. Gradually I began to think it was the smell of cannabis but Dh kept on insisting it couldn't be as they were non-smoking rooms and it would have set off the smoke alarm. I was feeling quite woozy at this point and in the end we both fell asleep. Had a rough night with the children waking up coughing and I just felt like I had the worst hangover.

In the morning when we went down for breakfast the room next door still smelled really strongly and in fact the whole corridoor did. I felt woozy at breakfast and after rang reception. They said they had had a number of complaints about the 'cannabis situation' and had asked the people in the room to stop Hmm. They also promised to contact me later to discuss a refund - we had paid in advance for the room. When we checked out I was asked to leave my mobile number and could only remember half of it, I also couldn't manage my chip and pin at the cash point. Thank goodness I wasn't driving because I was utterly out of it. I know from one regretfull incident at university that cannabis and I do not make a good mix and I would never expose my children to cannabis smoke.

Since then I have rung daily and always been told there is no manager in and that they will ring back. I have mild asthma that rarely causes me problems but I've been really chesty since then. I just can't believe that if it was a problem reported by a number of people they couldn't have done anything about it. I wish I hadn't been so doped up on the Friday night or I would have made more fuss then and there.

Funny you know, a similar thing happened to me last week. I walked down to the local shop and had to go past the pub, there were some people sat outside drinking, as I walked back past the pub I started to stagger and sing very badly and the next morning I had a thumping headache and couldn't remember a thing from when I got home Hhhmmmmmm........

hanging I find it really difficult to understand why you got this reaction too. MN is very odd sometimes...you get more outrage on behalf of dogs than children and more of a flap over kids being exposed to the distressing truth about father christmas than illegal drugs.....

The sad thing is that people will prob continue to tell you that you are in the wrong even though the hotel have admitted their service was compromised, threw the people out and that the people wrecking your stay were indeed breaking the law.

Well I'm glad you got your refund anyway!

It's an offence under the Health Act to allow smoking , cannabis or otherwise in a non smoking room you can allocate smoking rooms but few places actually do . The hotel themselves can be prosecuted so report it to their local Environmental Health Department.

Entropy - thats a bit shit, MN isnt full of druggies who are more up in arms about a dog than a spliff being smoked. It just depends on what time you post and whos about. OP could post this on a Monday afternoon and get very different replies.

namechangerbat · 14/12/2011 10:13

Lol

Have you ever smoked cannabis?

entropyglitter · 14/12/2011 12:50

Molly Firstly I didnt say that MN was full of druggies although I agree that if I had then that would indeed have been shit.

This thread has been rumbling on for 4 days and the majority of posters on all days have said that the OP is BU 'to expect to stay in a hotel without being exposed to cannabis smoke'

Needless to say I completely disagree. I think it perfectly reasonable to expect to stay in a hotel without being exposed to second hand smoke from an illegal drug.

and I think it's more important to protect children from passive smoke of any variety than either dogs or the truth about father christmas.

MollyTheMole · 14/12/2011 15:57

Firstly your post was a bit of a sweeping statement so forgive me if my post was in the same vein. If you didnt mean that MN isnt full of druggies perhaps your post should have been a bit less general.

I havent seen anyone say the OP was BU for expecting to stay in a hotel without being exposed to weed fumes, what I have seen is people respond to the rather far fetched description of someone being so stoned from a few whiffs of a joint that they apparently forgot telephone and pin numbers so to be fair her point was rather lost and probably not taken seriously.

"and I think it's more important to protect children from passive smoke of any variety than either dogs or the truth about father christmas." - I dare say most would agree to this so not sure what your point is? Confused.
