AIBU for being fed up that nobody ever gets my choice of present

I am a person of very simple tastes. I like to read. Everyone who knows me knows that this is my main hobby. I read everything, books, magazines, backs of cereal packets etc. etc. etc, always have done since I learnt to read.

So every year when people ask me what I would like for a present I have said things like "I'd like a book token please" (not recently of course) or "An Amazon gift voucher would be great, so I can get books for my Kindle".

Apparantly this isn't a 'real' present, so they (Mum, Dad, Brother, DH) never ever get me what I ask for.

AIBU for feeling miffed about this or should I be grateful for what I do get (which BTW I am).

I have an Amazon wish list. No one gets me what I want off that either Xmas Hmm

I don't get the you 'must have a present to open' thing either. Thats what my mum says. What she actually means is that she wants to watch other people opening presents, so its for her pleasure, not theirs.

I dunno, maybe I am unreasonable, but by far the best present anyone could give me would be an Amazon Gift Voucher, really.

YANBU OP.

I love getting book vouchers and it's not just that I get a book with them, I get to have all the fun of going to the shop with my vouchers and spend a happy few hours trying to get maximum value with them in the sales.

My InLaws always insist on Christmas "Wish" Lists. Never heard of this before. I am easy to please I love cookery books and have a list of books I want and also kitchem/cooking items.

But I NEVER get anything off my list as it's "not interesting" enough. Or get told "I didn't like anything on your list so I got you something else". Last year I got SLIPPERS. In the 7 years she has known me she has never seen me in slippers.

I also like receiving vouchers (tho I prefer Debenhams) and it's taken a looong time to communicate this to people. For me, the shopping and browsing is as much fun as the actual getting, and it's a real treat to "waste" money on hideously overpriced cosmetics without having to worry about the gas bill or new school shoes yadda yadda.;

My brother asked me this year if I wanted my gift pre donated to the charity shop as it would save everyone a great deal of time :-(

I am obviously an ungrateful cow.

NoOnes and thepeoplesprincess - thats how I feel, I love getting the most 'good' books for the money.

I find it almost impossible to write down a list of books I'd like, as choosing what book to read (and thus buy) is such a whimsical thing for me. It depends on how much the book costs and whether I'm skint or flushed with money, whether its a science fiction or thriller day, or a recently released or classic day, or easy to read or a challenge the brain kind of day!

Anyway I'm not sure you can buy eBooks for someone else's Kindle !

Couldn't they buy you one book - maybe a hardback that you wouldn't otherwise - and put a book token inside it?

I can't believe people are asking for lists then choosing to ignore them, or that anyone regards slippers as more interesting than cookery books!
