AIBU to want to stick to my Weight Watchers Pro Points plan over the Christmas?

TooMuchCaffeine · 10/12/2011 16:05

I have lost a stone so far and hope to lose three more.

We are having Christmas at home just me DH and DS. I am a strict vegetarian so turkey is out anyway. But I do love cake and stollen in particular and the odd glass or three of alcohol.

However I really want to lose the weight and this is the most weight I have lost for ages ..... so AIBU

Just do what you want. Eat, don't eat. Drink, don't drink. Not sure why this is in AIBU.

Liluri · 10/12/2011 16:07

YANBU.
Don't let anything or anyone derail your weight loss progress - you've done so well, so far.
You can factor the cake and alcohol in but just maybe not as much as you would like in a perfect world lol.

TubbyDuffs · 10/12/2011 16:11

I'm 4 pounds off target as have managed to shift some in the last couple of weeks, and I'm beginning to dread Christmas! I know if I just think sod it, the weight will just go back on, so I'm going to try and stick to SW.

Good luck, we can do it!

WorraLiberty · 10/12/2011 16:14

YANBU

I can't believe the amount of over eating some people do purely because 'It's Christmas'

It's mind boggling and some of them start this as soon as they get a tin of chocolates at the end of November.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 10/12/2011 16:14

yanbu. I don't see why people make such a big deal of stuffing themselves over christmas tbh. It's a roast dinner, then leftovers for a couple of days surely? It's not compulsory to eat your way through tins of sweets and bottles of Baileys. But I'm just bitter because I'm pregnant and will miss my glass of Baileys while wrapping the presents this year Wink Well doen for your weight loss so far, I'm proof that it's doable to take that amount of weight off and to keep it off. Your effort will be so worth it :)

cocoachanneloffestivecheer · 10/12/2011 16:18

fuckity if you like mulled wine, try the hot spiced berry cordial by Bottle Green to get you in the festive mood. I drank masses of the stuff whilst pg last Christmas.

pranma · 10/12/2011 16:19

yanbu but I'm abandoning mine till telfth night-I've lost 3 stones and may put on half over Christmas but it will come off again in January.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/12/2011 16:21

Do what you want and good luck to you Xmas Smile

Provided, you don't judge me for eating lots over the next 2 weeks knowing that my giant healthy eating plan starts January (plan to lose 4 stone next year as coming up to big birthday)

OmniaParatus · 10/12/2011 16:26

Yanbu. I'm on WW too, and plan to have Xmas day off but plan and point every other day. One day off won't derail your weight loss, and if you have a lot to loose (I have to loose another four stone, have lost one and a half stone so far) I think it is important to have special occasions like birthday and Christmas off to keep you motivated, as it takes a long time to loose lots. I'm just hoping I will be good on boxing day and not pick at chocolate!

Kniternator · 10/12/2011 16:28

YANBU I am sticking to my Slimming World plan over Christmas. I am also going to group between Christmas and New Year. I can eat most of Xmas Dinner and just have a bit more will power. It seems like a waste of all the hard work and your hard work if you just pig out like normal.

Also well done for doing so well, you must be very proud of yourself. Smile

OmniaParatus · 10/12/2011 16:29

Well done pranma, loosing 3 stone is brilliant! I will think of you on boxing day and remind myself to stay off the choccy if I want to keep getting slimmer.

our tub of Celebrations didn't last long. The Baileys is fast disappearing. Xmas Blush

TooMuchCaffeine · 10/12/2011 16:53

I feel better now. And well done all of you on your weight loss. I started in September, and it's been a slow process as I am not exercising at the moment. Went off track this week slightly but will be back on it tomorrow - my weigh in day (I do it online).

I think if I give myself a day off - and only one day - Xmas day and enjoy my nut roast Hmm I'll be OK surely, as long as it's just one day. Thing is all the routines go out the window because of school hols and DH being home and we eat at wierd times, etc etc....

Last Christmas when on pp I relaxed a little for one day - namely Christmas day. I ate pretty much what I wanted and didn't count points. I just drew a line under it and went back to the straight and narrow the very next day (and assumed I had no weeklies left until the next week was due to start). I STS which was acceptable I think!

hmc · 10/12/2011 17:00

Btw I had lost 4.5 stone by July this year to reach goal and so far am keeping it off

fluffy123 · 10/12/2011 17:05

You are absolutely not being unreasonable. I have been on a seven month weight loss journey and in the summer had lost 1 and 3 quarter stones and went on a cruise. I had the choice to eat all the food that was absolutely everywhere any time of the day or stick with my diet. I chose the latter and came back 4 pounds lighter. It was real turning point because I thought if I can avoid over eating on a cruise then I may have cracked it full stop . Yesterday I got to my goal which was the same as you a four stone loss and I can say hand on heart the first stone was the hardest. You have done so well and will continue to now you have taken control of your eating. I wish you every success and a wonderful Christmas.

TooMuchCaffeine · 10/12/2011 17:08

Thanks and well done to you both hmc and fluffy123 - it is hard but it's got to be worth it in the end. I feel so much better even with the stone I have lost.

Yanbu. I have been tracking my calories via myfitnesspal.com and have lost a stone. I will continue to track over christmas, I don't mind if I'm a little over my ordinary allowance as long as I don't put on weight I will be happy.

I haven't banned any foods, I will drink and have chocolate etc I just won't have loads and loads.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 10/12/2011 17:45

YANBU as long as it's a decision that you've made.

I did one of the diets over Christmas one year, can't remember if it was SW or WW but the leader was a harridan who nagged and insulted us into dieting over it and I did it but resented every single second and had a miserable time. Will never do it again. However, it's different if it's your decision.

Well done so far and good luck with the rest.

thebigkahuna · 10/12/2011 17:47

No yanbu. I've recently lost a stone and got back to pre pg weight. I'll indulge in the roast potAtos on Christmas day and plenty of wine but will be turning down cake, quality street etc etc

NorksAkimbo · 10/12/2011 17:49

Banning food AND/OR binge eating are both bad ideas at any time of year. Eat and drink a small amount of what you fancy...don't gorge or overdo it, and you'll be fine. I'm on myfitnesspal as well, and what I love about it is that I've not given up any foods I enjoy...I've just stopped eating ridiculous amounts. If I want a mince pie, I eat a mince pie...it took me a long time, but I no longer give myself permission to eat 10 mince pies just because I'm having a 'day off' from dieting...I've changed the way I eat full stop. Be sensible and enjoy it!

squeakytoy · 10/12/2011 17:55

Indulging in a few drinks and eating a bit more over a couple of days will not pile the pounds back on, and if you have a bit more exercise to walk it off too, you can still enjoy the festivities without feeling you are mising out.

Haziedoll · 10/12/2011 18:00

Norks, I totally agree. Banning foods is definitely not a good idea. When people ask me how I am losing weight I'm sure they don't believe me when I tell them that I'm losing weight because I'm not over indulging but it really is that simple.

Pippaandpolly · 10/12/2011 18:22

Why don't you try a 'filling and healthy' day on Christmas day? (Am on WW too.) That's what I'm planning so I don't have to bother with pointing and can not feel like I'm on a diet for the day. If you save your weeklies you can use them for a glass of wine or some Christmas pudding etc, whatever you're into, and you don't need to feel deprived or sit miserably watching everyone else tuck in! Make sure you cook (or whoever is doing the cooking does) healthily, don't go crazy with butter etc, and eat sensibly sized portions. It's totally possible.

Vajazzler · 10/12/2011 18:38

YANBU!
I've lost 5st4lbs since may on WW and will not allow myself to self sabotage just cos it's christmas.
I'll have my usual porridge for brekkie, soup for lunch, and then a christmas dinner. Ive already stopped eating roast potatos and have swede instead. I have already bought myself an individual christmas pudding thinking that it was a sensible idea until i discovered it was 8pp! And thats before ive put any cream with it. Might re think that part of my plan....
Im also a bit upset that my leader is not running a group between christmas and new year. I NEED my weigh in!!!
