I got bought the single when it first came out by my first boyfriend. I was bemused when I opened my Christmas present, as I'd never heard of The Pogues, but he thought "it deserves to be number one", so my hopes for a Constance Carroll eyeshadow palette or a little bottle of Exclamation! were put to one side. When we split up after he walked my best friend to the bus stop, I smashed it into little pieces.

Sigh. Probably worth a fortune now.

Its a fab song, but not a patch on Last Christmas by Wham though. You can't get more Christmassy than that, its got sleigh bells and everything.

I have just seen an advert (yes yes, daytime telly. Am illing so allowed) for the cast of TOWIE singing Last Christmas badly. That could well be the worst version ever.

YABVU. That is a fantastic Christmas song - very possibly the best ever!

Shane McGowan sings it just like I would as well. He almost hits some of the notes and it really really is the best way to do it.

Oh yes that is so spot on. Depends on the day of the week really but in combination with tone deafness and a missing tooth that provides a kind of counter point beat with its own rythmn I really can work up quite a good tune. Not the tune the composer had in mind obviously.
