To think games developers could show a little responsibility?

DS is showing me his new Moshi Monsters zoo game. All very fluffy and caring - feed & bathe the little critters. Then he finds the creature called Burnie. The on screen instruction says 'won't it be funny if we make Burnie hiccup? give him gasoline'. So in the game you go off to the shop & buy a petrol can.... wt*? This game is aimed at primary school kids so what were they thinking of?

They were probably giving your children more credit than you are. They're monsters, they're meant to do silly things. Any kid who is influenced into feeding someone gasoline as a result of this (fantastic) game has enough problems as it is without having had played it.
Best kids game of the year 10/10, way better than those silly Dora/Diego games have been for years. Its about time games didn't treat kids like morons.
Buy this game - highly recommended!

The game is certified for age 3+. I give my DS credit but don't you just know some kid is going to try it on a dog?

Are you in the industry?

Umm... I think you should probably teach them that what they see in the game is something that doesn't necessarily translate to real life. And if they can't distinguish reality from fantasy they are too young to be playing that game regardless of what it says on the box.

No, I don't just know. If it did happen it would be tragic but hardly the fault of the game developers, it's just think of it like the kids books you read when you were younger, the fairy tales are much worse than anything about today with a 3+ rating (those are hard to get, very strict guidelines) and you turned out fine, right? Think of all the sharp intruments used to stab/cut off heads/push old ladies into ovens that didn't affect you. It's pretty much the same thing. I think you should worry less, your kid is probably going to be fine just :)

and Mario kills turtles and throws their shells at people! Such terrible modelling for children Xmas Shock

Give me a fucking break.

BusyOrc · 08/12/2011 21:14

Case in point: Mario would get a 6+ by modern rating systems :p I think Super Mario 3D land did just the other week. Moshis are the best!

MenopausalHaze · 08/12/2011 21:15

OP - I think you could use a grip. Here - have one on me.

BlissfulMistletoe · 08/12/2011 21:19

how would a young child be able to buy petrol any way.

and things like petrol and other dangerous things should be locked away from children.

BabeRuthless · 08/12/2011 21:19

If a primary school aged child is managing to get hold of gasoline then I think the content of a game is the least of their parents' problems.

NeuromanticisedVisionsofXmas · 08/12/2011 21:21

and is psychotic enough to feed it to a dog of course.

Actually I worry about the kinds of people that even dream up this as a possibility. Whats wrong with you OP? Hmm

munstersmum · 08/12/2011 21:49

This was about context. Most of the rest of the game is trying to make out the player as nurturing. Read the description -
"Play exclusive Moshi mini-games to help boost your Moshling's Level, Mood, Health and Happiness". You brush them, soap them , towel them etc.

Neuro it's not me with the sick mind - the developers think it funny to use gasoline. Couldn't they have gone for something fizzy?

NeuromanticisedVisionsofXmas · 08/12/2011 22:00

The context is that Burnie is a flame moshi (of the fiery fizzledragon family), he drinks gasoline, its what they live on. So its hardly out of context at all. Hmm

Tarenath · 08/12/2011 22:21

It actually makes perfect sense. Feed it petrol to create fire. It's perfectly logical.

Have you ever played Pokemon OP? "Lets go and capture the local wildlife, force them into tiny little balls and make them fight each other for our entertainment!"

Feeding a little fire monster some petrol pales in comparison to a lot of the childrens games out there.

Crosshair · 08/12/2011 22:34

really?

munstersmum · 09/12/2011 12:55

Tarenath nope I'm not a games player so may be have got off lightly so far Grin. That you say it's logical perversely kind of supports my point (I know you don't mean to) because the other thing you get is sausages. It seems muddled. I don't know Pokemon but if it's a fighting game then fine that's what it is & known for. Play Ben10 & everything is consistently weird, aggressive, sci-fi whatever & expected.

redpanda13 · 09/12/2011 14:58

You would need the sausages to bbq them on the dragon's breath? Just a guess. DD's Moshi Monsters game is not getting opened until Christmas
